Hotels Recommendations

Ok, even though my venue has offers room accommodations, my FH and I, as well as my family would rather get rooms at another hotel for the night before and the night of the wedding.

The ceremony and RH is in Stony Brook. Does anyone have recommendations for a nearby hotel? Can be 347.. off LIE...not too far off the beaten path b/c I'm going to try and block some rooms there for out of town guests.

Any experience w/ hotel blocking in this area?? Also, I have no clue about hotel blocking..are you liable for all rooms, even if not booked?
