House advice re: final walk thru

We are closing on our house on Monday and our final walk thru is Sunday. Can anyone offer any advice on what they did that we might not be thinking of? Should we run all the appliances like the washer & dishwasher? All advice welcomed!

Thanks.

Flush the toilet, run the faucets (both hot and cold). Turn on the heat for a minute to make sure it works. Same with A/C if it has CAC. IF it's raining, check out roof, gutters and basement.

Congrats and Good Luck!

First off congrats!

Secondly....besides what Mo just said:

Check EVERYTHING storage wise.....make sure they take EVERYTHING you don't want, otherwise it will be your responsibility to get rid of it, which could wind up being a pain in the ass...Here's an example:

We didn't check the garage crawl space or the house crawl space.....there were about amillion paint cans, 3 nonworking edgers, and a ton of other things that you can't just throw in the garbage for pick up. You have to arrange special pickup/delivery, which can only be scheduled on certain dates, and you have to shlep the stuff there!

So make a checklist of everything they need to discard (away from the house) before you move in.

also make sure stuff that was suppose to stay, is there! When we did our walkthrough the blinds on the back sliders were gone in addition to the BRAND new washer/dryer being switched to crapppy old ones

Turn all the appliances on and make sure they work. Example - the dryer in our house turned on, but wouldn't dry a piece of lint b/c the people that lived here never cleaned the dryer vent - when the chimney guy got here (after we closed), he said we were lucky we did not have a fire b/c of how badly the vent was clogged with lint. (By this, I'm not talking about the lint trap that you pull out of the top of the dryer, but the vent that leads from the back of the machine to the outside of the house).

Make sure you flush all the toilets and watch for leaks - I found a leak this way. Turn on all the faucets long enough to look for clogs and leaks.

Lift everything off the counters in the kitchen - make sure there are no burn marks or other damage.

Open and close all the windows to make sure they work properly. Check the locks on all windows and doors.

Take pictures! Good luck, Liz!!!

Congrats adn Best wishes.. I second what everyone else said..
and Depending on how old the house is... You can also ask what type of wiring is in it.. MY FH is an electrician and sometimes he helps rewire new houses people just bought cause theyre not up to code. Make sure it is.. cause thats another expense you shouldnt have to encounter!
Good Luck!
