house cats wandering free -- a vent

house cats wandering free -- a vent

My annoying neighbors (I'm sure I've ranted about them here before) recently got a kitten -- it's probably about one year old. This kitten is allowed to wander around the townhouse complex. With no collar. Day or night. It sits on the porch and taunts my dog. It chases and kills songbirds in the yard.

A few people in my neighborhood seem to think it's OK to let their cats wander around at will. Am I crazy in thinking that this is totally wrong and irresponsible? There are a lot of busy streets in this area and the cats could easily get hit by cars. There are a lot of migrating songbirds in this area and the cats are killing them. I know that some people argue that it's somehow 'natural' for cats to kill birds. How is this 'natural' when the cats in question are already domesticated and FED by humans? It's not like these are wild animals foraging desperately for food... the Meow Mix is at home waiting for them!

Why can't housecats just stay in houses?

Argh.

Vent over!
