Just wondering if anyone out there looking to buy is thinking of holding off to see if prices go down, we are both still living at home and would love to buy a house but LI is crazy! i am thinking that maybe we should rent for a year or so and see if it gets any better and just save so we can have a heftier down payment. Then again interest is low, I am so confused!!

I happen to be a real estate agent in the Rockville Centre area. I know how frustrating it is for all of you trying to buy your first home. My advice is to keep looking, get to know the market and area well you want so you will be able to know the right house when it comes along. Real estate has always been a good long term investment. Nobody knows for sure when or if the market will come down. So far, it just keeps going up. I work with people who wish they bought a house 2 years ago but were afraid and now they can't afford that house. Buy a house because you want to live in it and don't try to predict what will happen to the market.

Wow thanks novembergirl we actually have a professional here ladies!! And one who is getting married so understands.
You know it is just that planning this wedding is so much right now and the added stress of finding a home is making me toss and turn at night worrying, What I do think is that a house is always a good investment but I also dont know if more than a litle aprtment/condo/townhouse is what we will want to deal with while we are just trying to get used to being married and living together!
Fixing stuff and finding furniture for it will all be something we would have to deal with and if we try to put the 20% i wont be able to afford any furniture, card board boxes for me but i dont think that is unusual.
Maybe condo is a good thing to do in that you actually own somethin buttafli, i know some are expensive but some arent that I have seen.
Ugh ladies i am so happy I have this site to vent on, i am going nuts in my head just thinking about it
