How do you think Jericho IS the top district all the time? Don't you think it is odd that 100% of students pass the regents with flying test scores? They RIG the scores. I worked there so I know for a fact this is how they kept up with their high scores. You don't have to believe me- I personally don't care. Anywho, I am done with this post. You did offend me and if you can't understand why your post offended me, oh well. I ain't wasting my time.

I live near the Levittown / Hicksville border...Island Trees is a great school district..plus your taxes are a little cheaper in the Island Trees Area...Hicksville has pretty good schools..Good area if you stay South of Jerusalem Ave, Also off of Newbridge road is good area to. FM me if you have any questions!

the school district's reputation isn't great, particularly the high school. Island Trees, Levittown, East Meadow have better reps. Island Trees also has lower taxes. JMO.

We are looking at houses now as well and Hicksville is a town FH refuses to look at. Hicksville doesn't really have a good reputation for their schools. We are looking in Syosset and Jericho, although everything in Jericho is pretty much out of our price range. I wouldn't say it's a ghetto wasteland and that you would get knifed, but I wouldn't want to raise my children there.

omg. Who says that?

Not for nothing but Jericho schools are award winning yes but I hung out with people from Jericho and they all were coke heads and druggies. I am not saying that Hicksville is award winning but it is diverse, school district has gotten better and it is slowly changing for the better. I went to Hicksville and got a 1400+ on my SATS. I had a good experience going there being exposed to different cultures and backgrounds. Not so shabby for a kid from Hicksville, huh? Go ahead- put your kids in Jericho / Syosset. Good areas- yes! But drugs are widespread and teachers want to keep their jobs so they pass all their kids! (I know this for a fact) And, places like that are 'bubbles'. BTW, I forgot to mention- I worked at Jericho in the SCOPE program. I ran the after school classes. Those kids are spoiled to $hit! I would never want my kids around that.

I don't think I'm ragging on your town at all. FH just doesn't want to consider it for the school district. Jericho is one of the top school districts in the country, so I can't see how the teachers would just pass their kids. It doesn't make any sense to me. Jericho and Hicksville border each other also. I also live in Plainview which also borders Hicksville and I have a friend who lives there. The towns might have different types of people living there but I drive through all 3 to get to work everyday. It really isn't that different and I don't think you should feel so angry about it. I don't think it is a bad place to bring up children at all. And I think drugs are a problem throughout the island. Through my Hicksville friend I know others from there who have used drugs. It is unavoidable. We don't have a lot of money either. Honestly we are looking for a dump in a good school district which we can fix up in a couple of years. Speaking of diversity I think it is important for kids to have diversity and Jericho is right next door to Hicksville. My town had plenty of kids with money and it taught me a lot growing up. You will have to deal with people of all types as adults, not just different races and cultures but you have to deal with snobs and down to earth people too. I was also just trying to give our opinion on the area, not trying to offend anyone.

Don't want to get involved in any nastiness at all but I just wanted to let you all know that, regardless of district or economic level, ALL teachers are being forced to promote MANY kids that don't deserve to go on to the next grade. This is not a wealthy Long Island isolated situation.

I'm sure that all of the school districts you are speaking of are wonderful in their own ways but I guarantee this is happening in every school in America.

Also - again, we might want to be careful with the words we choose when we're posting here. I know this website is for helping others but I always go back to the saying 'if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.' NO ONE wants to hear people talking negatively about the place they're from, even if they have spoken negatively about that place themselves. JMHO
