I can't find the thread where you ladies listed out the towns that (1) were close to city, in Nassau, (2) had good school districts, (3) close to transportation.
Long Island is not looking so good lol. I don't know if we can part w/ Queens hah

Ugh everything costs so much, and then on top of that they need big time renovation!!! Then I watch House Hunters and see these mansion looking homes for like $200K You can't even get a basement in some areas for that much.

Speaking from a teacher's perspective... and a house buyer (DH and I are in contract)
You should get a house in a good school district.... not saying anything negative about the DOE, BUT make sure the district you are in for the DOE has good ELEM/MS - You child can apply to the amazing HS, but they have to have the background knowledge first, so make sure the schools have good ratings 'A' plus test scores, so you know what you are getting yourself into.

So true...I agree so depressing...I feel like we are going to live in an apt forever!!!
