I'm glad that all of you have has such success finding homes.... is anyone in the same boat as me, where they are finding it virtually impossible to find a home less than $200K, that doesn't need extensive work? Very discouraging.... need to move to Florida! Ha!

there are no decent homes less than $500k in the areas that we are looking. we are fortunate to be able to afford a higher priced home, but even the homes in our range are not picture perfect. i am EXTEMELEY picking so it does not make the process any easier. i have noticed that prices in our range are beginning to drop, so i am optimistic.
have you thought of buying a co-op?

Less than 200k is unheard of in any safe neighborhood on LI. MAYBE you can find something out east, in Riverhead, Shirley, Mastic.
I feel your pain. Ten years from now I wonder what the demographics of LI will be like when no one 'starting out' now can afford to live here.

There is no way you are finding a home in a safe area for under 200K. Maybe try a co-op. There are some houses in low 200's in Shirley/Mastic area that you can check out. There are good parts and bad parts of those towns but everyone is different. Good luck!

We got a 1 bedroom condo in a good area for about $215,000...But no way did we see any homes for that price!

we bought a co op because there was no way we could find a decent house in a decent area for what we could afford..now we are living comfortably with money left to save for a house in a few year!! think about a co op or condo if that's your budget..jmo
