Housewarming....

DH and I were invited next Friday to a housewarming party. One of my great childhood friends just purchased a house with her fiancee.

What are some essential things to bring over...throw me some ideas!!!!!!!!! I'm clueless.

Re: Housewarming....

you could make a basket of wine/alcohol related products
wine glasses or mugs, wine stopper, martini shaker and a bottle or 2 of wine or alcohol, shot glasses, etc

a basket of kitchen stuff...hand towels, spatulas, spoons, oven mitts, salt and pepper shaker, apron

Re: Housewarming....

wine
a giant thing of toilet paper (costco size)

those are the 2 essentials that everyone needs in their home!! :)

this might take more legwork than you want, but going around and getting takeout menus of places in the area would be nice.

Re: Housewarming....

Did they live in their parent's home before this or did they have their own place?

If they had their own place, I would say bottle of wine, blender, beer mugs, wine glasses.... something that will definitely be used for them or for guests!

Re: Housewarming....

here are a few old school traditional items.. maybe you could do one of these?

Item/Gift Significance
Bread You will never go hungry
Broom Sweep away the evil; Your house will always be clean
Candle You will always have light
Coin Bring good fortune for the year
Honey Represents the sweetness of life
Knife Protect against intruders
Olive Oil Health, Light and believe it or not, keep your husband faithful
Penny Keep the friend from ever being at the end of the knife
Plant You will always have life
Rooster To keep trespassers and dangers away from the home (Not a live one, but you can find them imprinted on dish towels or a pitcher that is shaped like one)
Rice Sign of fertility
Salt Represents life's tears; You can also place a pinch of salt at the threshold of each door and window for good luck; Mend all wounds
Toilet Paper The reason is that the roll is easy to spool out and represents the hope that all problems with the new home will be as easily solved.
Wine Never go thirsty; Your home brings you happiness and joy
Wood Your life/home will always have stability, harmony and peace

not a real rooster LOL!!!!!

Re: Housewarming....

My favorite was bottles of wine, bamboo, or gift cards. Other than that, i didn't like getting plants because we were doing a lot of work on the house, and taking care of a plant was last on my list. (they died...whoops) This was also my first time out of my parents house, and I had no idea what i realy wanted. Someone bought us a picture frame, but it still hasn't gone up, cause I can't figure out where....So I would stick to the wine, bamboo or gift cards. I like the welcome mat though...

What are they into? if they're into wine, maybe u can bring them a good bottle, if they're into art, a nice painting. Or if u're not sure and u like to bake, u can always bring bake goodies, almost everybody has a sweet tooth
