I agree about Florida- I was looking at condos and houese in the Coral Gables Area- not much cheaper then NY- but they are nicer
my Dad is looking a condos on the water in Jupiter beach- and they are NOT cheap
like when my Grandma bought her 15 years ago- are you ready for this number $40K- it's not on the water but $40K- come one- that's nuts

Re: Housing Prices Put Americans on the Move
my ex-boss is in the process of relocating to the Tampa area. she was there last week and put in bids on 2 houses. They were both priced around the same amount of $$ as she sold hers for in Suffolk. BUT… these houses are 3000 sq feet and 2 yrs old with every upgrade you can imagine including sunken Roman marble Jacuzzi tubs in the master bath, walk in closets all over, gourmet kitchens with granite countertops, etc.

Wow, all these articles just confirm that DH and I made the right move/choice. It's really not worth it in NY. We really are so happy. Do you know what no stres feels like? And I love that Atlanta and its suburbs are always touted among the 'good'...yeay!!
I wish you all that are thinking about the 'big move' many blessings!!

I know- you look at what you can get here vs there- and it's crazy-
2 bedroom condo in long beach- about $750- you are lucky it you get a parking spot
in Florida- you get a boat slip, valet parking, doorman, updated everything, some even have drug stores or food places

What's good for some is not good for all my deary. You're blessed to have a family in the area...some (ok, DH & I) wouldn't want to leave our families....they're too important to us.

Yes, that's true. I am very lucky. My DH isn't so much...he misses his family terribly...but we know it'll get better!

I have to agree. It would be way too much of a personal family sacrifice for us. We are blessed that we are older, have had more years to save and don't have any crippling college loan debt that more recent grads have.

Re: Housing Prices Put Americans on the Move
I miss NY and my family - however if we stayed in NY with the jobs we had we would have never had a great house (in South Florida) We built a brand new house for under $250,000.
That would never happen in NY - especially where I come from in Brooklyn.

that seems to be the problem, not wanting to leave family. Glad it was a good move for you Sasha, but hopefully your DH will adjust. People have said it can take up to 2 years until you really feel adjusted.

Yes!! We continue praying that DH's familiy will move out here once they come visit. It just doesn't compare to Brooklyn...and they have kids that are yet to be raised. We hope the peace and quiet and realization of a dream come true (not to mention being close to us!) will be enough of a lure!

Re: Housing Prices Put Americans on the Move
I miss my mom in NY terribly. Sunday was not easy for me - We needed to move to a place where it is affordable for us to live. Finding jobs was not easy either. We are happy here - finally!! Housing is way to expensive in NY and moving away gives the family a reason to come and visit.

Re: Housing Prices Put Americans on the Move
No, family and friends will keep us here also. We would like to try and have a child soon, and we wouldn't have any people to help us out in most other parts of the country. The bulk of our close family are in NY, NJ, and CT.
Also, I love the Northeast as does FH. I find myself getting bored in cities like Atlanta or Orlando when I have travelled there for work. I'm sure there are some nice things to do that I've missed, and I don't mean to offend those who have happily relocated there.
There's just no draw to the Southeast for me. Culturally, there is not nearly as much to do, and I would miss that. Plus, my allergies are 10 times worse there than here. The only other area of the country I like nearly as much as the northeast is the northwest, but that's pretty expensive also.

There is a lot to do in Atlanta culturally, but I agree completely that it's not close to NY. Nothing can ever be.
It might be boring, but that's why we moved. Being from PR and my DH having parents from DR, we like a slower life and a higher quality of living...NY burnt me out! I felt old there since I never had energy!!
And no offense taken...it's NOT for everyone, that's for sure!! That's why I always say people should visit a LOT before making such a DRASTIC move.
