mary, are you lactose intolerant? so is my FH. Bryers makes a 99% lactose free vanilla ice cream, and there are soy-based ice cream sandwiches out there (but are hard to find near us )

wow, i'm surprised how many folks are lactose intolerant...i know it's not something to be happy about, but when we can't order a creamy or chocolatey dessert because FH is lactose intolerant, it feels like he's the only one

I never was growing up; Drank tons of milk with my lebanon bologna sandwiches. But as a person gets older, one's ability to break down lactose decreases, and kaboom......lactose intolerance. Debi's Fred is lactose intolerant, as is our Son, who's 30 yrs. old. My Son and I use Lactaid milk, and I have tried the Breyers lactose free ice cream. It's not bad. I was just telling DH, yesterday, I wish someone in our area, would cater to Lactose intolerant folks, so we wouldn't have to miss out on those delicious Dairy Queen Sundaes!!! Are there such places in NY? Mary MOB

unfortunately, we haven't found a place that caters to lactose intolerance, although I'm pretty sure there are a couple of bakeries that do that in a couple of major cities around the country.

but, one of the things that made FH's mom like me even more was that I discovered that there are certain cheeses that are naturally lactose free! Most cheddars are, but Kraft's Cracker Barrel and Cabot write on their label that they're lactose free. FH hadn't eaten milk-based cheese since he was diagnosed with lactose intolerance at the age of 14, so he was especially happy to be able to eat cheese again!

It's awesome!!!! We buy Turkey Hill here in Lancaster. Don't know if folks in NY can buy it, but if you can, here's a tip. Call 1-800-MYDAIRY, and ask for their free coupons. They are for TH ice cream, teas, etc. They also send out a new year calendar w/coupons. My Husband won't eat any ice cream but Turkey Hill. Mary MOB

I like Mint Chocolate Chip - but not the green one. I think its Breyers that makes the white one. I also like cookies and cream.
