I went to Tahiti, but actually really wanted Fiji...The determination was that it was a bit more $$ than Tahiti and Tahiti is $$$...I heard it is so gorgeous

Government was overthrown about a year ago in a bloodless coup. Apparently, it happens with some regularity, like every five years. Check on the political stability before booking.

I think Fiji would be awesome! And from what I have seen, its a cheaper alternative to Tahiti. But ya, research the stability of the government first and talk to a travel agent about safety of traveling there. it might be fine, but better safe than sorry!
