How am I supossed to save $$...

How am I supossed to save $$...

... When I just paid almost $600 to get my POS car fixed?!!? AND when I paid $200 for my dog at the vet!??!

I'm so stressed because FH and I are tucking money away with every paycheck for this wedding and just when we seem to be ahead we fall waaaaay behind. We try so hard not to use credit cards but in instances like this, we have no choice... so there's another bill to pay each month instead of putting that money aside. Our parents are helping us out, but we still have to hold up our end.... HOW DO PEOPLE DO THIS!?!? And I know that I can take a second job, but I'm just frustrated.

Thanks for letting me scream and whine for a second... I don't do it often, so I guess my time has come...

I know how you feel. All you can really do is Budget Budget and Budget more. Do you guys have a money market account with ING or Emigrant. FM me if you want a referral link for ING you get $25 for opening.

Sometimes there are just unpredictable things that come up. At least when you get married you'll get lots of gifts

I understand your frustration. We became more open for overtime at our jobs, even begging for it. I took a second job waitressing. (DH wanted a 2nd job, but his schedule at work changes every week.)

It was frustrating because we were working 60 hour weeks, but we always saved time for ourselves. Even if it was 2 hours per week sometimes. (Our schedules are 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts, always changing, never together) But we said it was only 18 months for the rest of our lives. My second job alone saved about $6000 for the wedding, which we paid for ourselves.

It can happen!!!!! A few setbacks really stink, but stay focused!!!!

try to take a deep breath and relax.

now that we both know that it's easier said than done...

let me share a few tips.

second job is a good idea, but like a previous post read, make sure you make time for your relationship.

try to do a lot of diy. that is the ONLY way i was able to pull this off with the money i had. fm me if you need some help with that.

take people up on their offer to help. this is one place where i made a mistake. i let 'stuff' get in the way of accepting help sometimes.

I know exactly how you feel. Just when we thought okay we're doing good saving....BAM!!!!! some unforeseen $$$ trap appeared. I will tell you I'm a week away from my wedding and some how it all got done and paid for. So in the end it'll all work out...

Thanks ladies. I can't think of a better place to come to b!tch and moan. Things will work out, they always do, I just have to keep that in mind.

A second job might not be too far away.

not that this solves your problem, but you should look into pet insurance. my cat had to go to the emergency room labor day weekend and the bill came to over $800. i thought i was going to die. the next morning i signed up for pet insurance...not that it helped me with the $800 bill, but at least if g-d forbid one of my cats gets sick again, i'm partially covered. go to www.veterinarypetinsurance.com if you're interested. as for trying to save money, it's not easy at all. i'm balancing my checkbook at zero every month and wondering where it all goes....

Mine is a culmination of a second job (although that's mostly for the mortgage, not a one day part - I'm with miss nee about it's about the marriage not the wedding), I started investing in my company's employee stock purchasing program a few months ago and we got a 15% discount so I make 15% from the start and the stock is fairly steady. My p's are contributing a bit too. Otherwise, a low interest credit card. I've recently cleared one - but like you sh** happens and my car lease is up and wouldn't you know - I have about $1k in stuff that needs to be fixed before I send the car back... I'm going with a different make so the current leasing company will not eat the cost. Just take it one day at a time. You can pay off most of that low interest cc with what you get in gifts from the wedding anyway - that's the final part of our plan. I'd rather put all my earnings back into the house since wedding gifts generally don't really provide enough to make a dent. Between my p's, the stock and the gifts I'm sure the cc will be minimal if at all.

Also - budget yourself and figure out what you really need vs. would be nice to have.

Kim I totally know where you're coming from!

I don't even have a job yet I won't be done with Nursing school until '08. Luckily, FH graduated earlier this year and is working but it's still really difficult to save. He's working in Maryland so now he has rent to pay... bills... and the job has him out of the country for a couple months so he can't even really save as he'd like to.

My best advice is to invest. I still haven't made my way over to the bank but... speak with an investment advisor and figure out what you can do for your money to grow (short term). Even if it's a couple hundred bucks twice a month... it'll make a difference and you'll be surprised how much it builds! Just make sure it's a low risk investment.

Best wishes
