how are digital albums layed out?

i am just now choosing my pics for my album. it is a digital album and i was just wondering what to put on the first page.

is it layed out like a regular book where the inside front cover is blank? or is the inside of the front cover a two page spread of pictures?? is it the same for the back cover?
