How are you collecting your envelopes?

I might feel akward carrying around a big bag, but me and my FI are not much into bird cages. What's everyone doing?

We had a treasure chest up next to our dais. most people handed the envelopes to us and we just kept passing the treasure chest and depositing them in. Get something easy for you to just drop the envelopes in.

I have a real mailbox (it is FI's grandfather's) and my aunt is decorating it. If my guests hand me enevlopes as I am walking around I am going to hold them until we get back to our table and then put them in the mailbox.

What a Great Question !!
I'd like to use a decorated mailbox. I went to a wedding and my friend had that and it looked pretty nice. I see if the pictures that I have from her wedding have any and with her permission, I will post. Anyone else have pics?

I actually feel kind of silly having some sort of box or decorated item to put envelopes in, because what if you don't get any or you only get a few, is it rude to presume people are going to give you money? I don't really know the edicate, so I guess if we get any envelopes, we'll give them to the best man to hold in his jacket pocket if FH's jacket pocket gets too stuffed with envelopes!

I don't think you should put them in tux pockets. Forget about the fact that there will be a lot of them, but you know how guys are, they take their jackets off and don't even think anything of it. If you want to do something more discreet than a mailbox or birdcage type of thing, you should have your parents have a big bag under their table and when a couple of cards accumulate, you can go drop it off in the bag.

Re: How are you collecting your envelopes?

DF's grandma wants the money bag tradition because in the family it is her job to hold the money bag which I am ok with. I just didn't want to walk around with bag in hand...not my style.
So whenever we get a card we will give it to her to put in the bag.

I'm so not into the bird cage or mail box thing either. In my opinion - it is soliciting. Guests may feel they HAVE to put something in there.
Most people shoud send gifts or cards ahead of time but if they do plan to hand us money - I expect them to hand it to us. If I were giving someone a card - I'd never just put it in a box or cage - I'd insist on handing it to them in person.

Im thinking of having my grandmother make a buste bag out of my moms wedding dress and gmother will hold on to it for the night (its an italian tradition).
As for a card boxes I posted something about this when I first started posting on here and I was flamed for it (i didnt post for a while after that cause i was afraid). But ill say it again, my cousin had one at his wedding in the shape of a wedding cake. He had a really elegant wedding at a very expensive hall, but all the fam talked about was how tacky that big wedding card box was. I understand the convience factor, but just keep in mind that your guests might not appreciate it.

I don't want to have a box or anything either, for the same reasons MegLehner said.
