How bad is it???

OK so last night I had a dream about going into labor ( I dont know why this is happening so soon....ill only be 16 weeks on wed) which got me thinking all day.... OMG im going to have to go into labor....

Some people have wonderful stories...some have horror stories...and (thank God) I have never been seriously hurt, sick, needed surgery or anything...so I guess i dont know what its like to be in severe pain or even what goes on in a hospital... I guess I just am a big paranoid chicken...

I have heard that its like PMS cramps times 100....and if you choose to get an epidural....you'll be comfortable after that( I so plan on getting an epi) come on Moms gives us your stories....( but dont scare us too much, cus theres no turning back now...

Its funny to me how everyone focuses on delivery, and not what comes after.

I had a terrible delivery -- 24 hours long, 2.5 hours of pushing, 4th degree tear, and needed to use a vacuum to deliver. But, I lied on my back and had a dozen professionals buzzing around me taking care of me the whole time and providing drugs when ever I felt more than discomfort. The end was always in sight, and everything seemed under control.

Personally, I have found the sleep deprivation that came with caring for a newborn to be FAR more painful. I had no idea how hard the first month of caring for a baby would be.

To summarize, I never cried once during labor/delivery, but boy have I since! I love my daughter, but I'm just so worn out!!

Not bad at all! Labor with my 1st daughter was pretty intense, I can tell you that the baby was literally 5 minutes old (the doc was in the middle of stitching me up) and my husband asked me 'so when can we have another' and I responded 'as soon as the doc gives the OK!'
It's so exciting I love when labor begins, just stay calm and in control and you'll have a much better labor and can really focus on wat is going on. I can't wait for labor to begin with this, my 3rd pregnancy, it's so exciting!

As painful as my contractions were, we cant wait to have another one. After 17.5 hours of labor and pitocin to try and speed it along only making my contractions 1 minute apart I would still have another baby in a heartbeat. I couldnt wait for an epidural and when I got it I forgot all about the pain.

Your right, the first few months are pretty terrible when you are used to sleeping! I guess we focus on the labor because its something you and only you can do and experience to its full effects. You cant blink it away, you cant leave the room when it gets too hairy, you cant put it off on your husband so you can roll over for an hour or two in peace.

Im sorry your little princess is making sleeping difficult. Is anyone around that you could call to come over and watch her while you sleep in the other room?

Forgive my whining. I just feel like the reality of caring for a newborn is the best kept secret out there in order to encourage more people to have children. LOL. Trouble is that since I'm exclusively breastfeeding, even if someone comes over there is only so much they can do. I've got the food attached to me! heheh. Every week gets better, so I'm hanging in there!

Your not whining!!! I went through the same thing with Emma. I LOVED the times when my ILs would come to visit. I would feed her, they would take her so I could sleep, when she got hungry they would bring her to me and take her away again so I could nap, if she wasnt asleep with me. Maybe you could have someone do that fo you. It makes a huge differece when you can have your own alone time.

It was definitely more painful than I thought it was as going to be but once I got the epidural it was fine. DH said I was a whole new person. But as the others have said, it is so worth it in the end when they hand you a beautiful little baby. I have to agree that caring for a newborn is a lot more stressful than labor and boy do I miss the days of being pregnant and taking naps whenever I felt the need to.
