How can I get my dog to stop eating..

Poop. Everytime he goes outside he eats it, It is gross, and it can't be good for him.

OMG! My moms dog used to do this when she was a puppy and it grossed us out so bad!!!!!! I dont know how or why she did it but she stopped after we would repeatedly yell at her..Good luck..it was something that was always sooooo gross!

My FH dog used to eat the cat poop. Well that was until we moved the litter box to higher ground.

I dont think he has ever eaten his own poop though. There is supposedly something that you put in the food. ( we were suppose to put it in the cats) so that the dog isnt attracted to it. I dont know if that would work for you though.

I had the same problem! My vet said to put Accent (the seasoning) in her food. It tastes OK when they eat it, but not when they poop it out!

Try it...it definately helped

I would think you could condition her, where right when you see her go to eat it, spray her mouth with lemon juice, shake a can with pennies, or something else that she finds adversive. Then she will make the association of 'if I eat poop then the adversive thing will happen, thus I won't eat the poop!'

Dogs that eat poop have a vitamin/mineral defficiency. Talk to your vet about this. We had a similar problem. made some modifications in the dog's diet and it got better! Good Luck!

Puppies tend to do this a lot.

My husband is a vet (he's out right now), and we had the same problem with our two dogs...but he never said anything about a vitamin defficiency (but I'll ask anyways).

Forbid is one thing to use or Deter. They are pills or powders you give to your dog that make their poop 'taste bad' to them.

I'm not sure if these items are for sale at pet stores, but I know you can probably get them at your local vet. practice.

We used them on our dogs for a few weeks, and it 'broke' that behavior. Now, we don't use it and they don't eat it.

Elvis would do that as a puppy too...well the cats poop...not really his own...

and we would know everytime b/c kitty litter would be stuck to his gums!!!

I read that some dogs do this as a 'safety instinct' a mother dog would eat her pup's poop in the den to protect against predators.... don't laugh this is carried over from the wolf lineage.

Some dogs do it because they are lacking in fiber.
