It's an old building w/old fixtures, it's nice just gets on my nerves. I don't want to throw a whole bunch of mula into it since it's just an apartment.
I got nice shower curtains from BBB, got candles, a nice rug, nice towels.
Anything else I can do?

Re: How can I MODERNIZE my bathroom ?
Not sure how to modernize it without seeing it but I will tell you that old bathroom fixtures are very popular now. Things like claw foot tubs, old black and white tile, etc.. are really in vogue.

I guess there's not much you can do if it's a rental apt. I'm sure not spending any $$ on our bathroom that I can't take with me! My bathroom is probably from the 70's, but the only thing really dated looking is the sink/cabinet set. I bought nice matching curtain, towels, basket, etc and that's about it for now

It sounds like have done about all you can without getting into some $$$. The only other thing I can think of is refinishing any cabinets or adding new hardware to them.
If you or someone you know is handy you can easily change the light and sink fixtures - just save the old stuff so you can put it back when you leave.
