How common is spotting during the first trimester?

I know the dr's usually think it's a bad sign but the more I talk to people the more common it seems. How many had it and for how long? And how much if not TMI. Thanks!

I didn't know I was preggo because I spotted for two months. Not constantly, but for four days month one and like three days month two.... Month three I missed my period completely and took a test and didnt know I was as far along as I was till my first sono!!!

A friend of mine had the same thing - she had what she thought was her period for 2 months and then missed the 3rd to find out she was 10 weeks pregnant. My last sono they said I was about 5.8 weeks but no heartbeat yet so they're concerned. Now I've been spotting only when I pee since Sunday. I'm just so upset and confused right now I just keep looking for answers....

My sister is pregnant and was spotting. The first time was a lot - I don't know exactly what a lot means, but I'm sure any bleeding definitely seems like a lot. It turned out that she had a blood clot outside of the placenta. They found it by taking a sonogram. The baby is fine and won't be affected but she will continue spotting throughout her pregnancy if the blood clot does not get disolved.

Your in my thoughts...you have to keep positive and worry only when the dr tells you that you should!

My doc said its very common to have spotting in the first tri. I had spotting and bleeding at 12 weeks cause my doc claimed my placenta probably hit a blood vessel. BUT I didnt have any spotting with Emma.

A friend of mine had spotting from her 4th-6th weeks. They also couldnt find a baby, just a sac, her levels continued to increase. FINALLY at her 7 week sono just when they were preparing for the worst they saw a baby with its little heart beating away. PLEASE dont give up hope!!!!

I spotted in my 6th week for a couple of days and then again at 9 weeks, for a couple of days. I was soooo scared!!! I thought for sure something bad was happening. It was a bit more than spotting, so that's why I got scared. Of course I went to the doctors and everything was fine. They still don't know why I was bleeding. They just said some people do! Don't worry I'm sure everything is fine!

I had spotting every day from weeks 4 - 11...but it was always brownish in color, not bright red. My dr. could never figure out the cause, but one day it just stopeed.

I've had the brown - now it's very deep red but no clotting or cramping. And only really when I wipe (sorry if tmi) I'm trying to stay optimistic. The dr is sending me for another beta test on Thurs to see if my levels are still going up.

I had the same thing around 8 weeks. What was strange was it was on the same day when I would have normally gotten my period. The doctor put me on bed rest for 4 days and throughout the whole pregnacy I've had to be very careful. They also noticed a blood clot on my sono at 20 weeks. It was gone by week 24 and they said it was probably because of the bleeding earlier in the pregnancy. I then had some more slight spotting around week 30 which they said was probably from the clot. Here I am ready to deliever any day now.

My point? Try not to stress about it. Spotting is very common.

If it is brownish and there is no clotting or clumps I wouldn't worry too much. Try to relax and take it easy as much as you can. It really could be anything. Try not to loose faith.
