My doctor said I have gained 'on the high side of the scale'.

To her credit, she said if I gain a pound a week for the next 10-14 weeks or however long this is going to take, that I would be fine. But she thought she should mention it as we are coming into the holidays and there are a lot of starchy, junky carbs that are going to be laying around. YUMMY!!!!!! And she'd like to see me rein my diet in a bit.

I thought about it hard as I pulled away, eating my Starbucks dark chocolate bar.

LMAO...that was pretty bold of your doctor, considering that WE ALL think you look FABULOUS! Doesn't she know you only answer to us?

And, I have to say....I LOVE reading your posts just to get to the punchline....you truly crack me up!

How dare she is right! Is she telling all her patients the same thing? If so she is going to become widely unpopular!

No offense to anyones prefrence but this is one of those reasons I HATE woman OBGYNs! The office I go to has 1 woman doctor & 2 males. The men told me I was doing great blah-blah-blah. Then I went to see her (they like you to go to all of the doctors just in case that one is on duty the day you give birth) I had gained like 2 pounds or something & she told me that I had to watch myself. I was like you have GOT to be kidding me. So, the next month I mentioned it to one of the male doctors & he said 'She's an idiot, you are supposed to be gaining weight'

Do not listen to that.

Jenny, You look great!!!! Perhaps you needed to gain a bit more than average, b/c you were slim to begin with

I think women tend to worry more about the 'after' weight effects than male doctors. That is why they probably harp more about it.

But Jenny you look great and I am sure that candy bar tasted even better than it would have without the comment

well not exactly PEELING out. Peeling out at 7 miles an hour maybe, after maneuvering my seatbelt around my belly.......

BUT I GOT HER! I HAD MY CHOCOLATE BAR AND GAINED PROBABLY ANOTHER FEW OUNCES RIGHT IN HER FACE! REBEL REBEL THAT'S ME!

I found that the male OB in the practice I went to for prenatal care was always less concerned about weight gain - I think his feeling was that as long as the PG woman is thriving and the baby is healthy, losing the weight is something you focus on after the baby is born. But, I agree w/Michele...I think women OB's think about it more during the pregnancy...

And I just have to say - Tracy, I am shocked that a Dr would say that to a patient about one of his colleagues! Personally, I would lose respect for the guy - it's one thing to have a different opinion or philosophy, but to call her an idiot to a patient....I'm sorry, but that's the pot calling the kettle black! JMO.
