How did he do it?

I've been seeing so many new faces here. So, how did your fiance pop the question? I love hearing the stories!

Re: How did he do it?

I love telling this story! It was my birthday (the big 25th) and my fiance took me on a dinner cruise around the potomac river, washington dc, aboard the Odessey, a real lavish, boat. We went there the very first bday of mine we spent together so when we pulled up, it was a surprise, it was really special already. We get inside, we have an amazing window table, there was champagne chilling at the table, it was beautiful. I noticed that all the waiters are smiling at me real goofy, and at one point the manager comes and introduces herself but I still had no clue what was up. Finally at sunset, we walk out on the boat deck. We're taking pictures, and kissing, looking out at the water. Finally, he was began telling me how much he loved me, and how he always new that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He was getting nervous and talking in circles, stopping every few minutes to give me a little kiss... still I had no clue... then he starts saying how he wanted to get me the perfect gift for my bday, how he had gone to all these stores trying to find something that would be good enough for me, saying ' I kept finding things at all these stores and would think no thats not good enough for her, nothing was good enough for her, so finally I decided what could be better then to make her my wife!' Girls, I turned towards him, and see that he's pulling this black box out of his pocket, my mouth drops down to the floor, he gets down on one knee and says ' Stephanie, I love you with all my heart, I want to spend the rest of my life with you will you marry me', It took me a good 5 minutes but I finally screamed out 'yes, yes, oh God yes!' I was hysterical crying. We go back inside, everyone started clapping, the waiters, who all knew what was up, started popping the champagne. The band singer begins singing 'At Last', which he did not plan, we get up, we are the only ones on the floor dancing, holding each other and crying. It was so amazing. We decided to make that our wedding song. It was so perfect how the song came on after all we had been through to get to this point in our lives, at last it was here!

It was the most romantic moment of my life!

I love telling my story as well lol. It was the day before St. Patrick's Day and of course it was snowing. I was upset because we had all these plans to go the St. Patrick's Day Parade but we couldn't go because of the weather. My fiance kept saying don't worry we will still go out at night with everyone. So anyway, i get home from school at the normal time i usually get home which is before my fiance. Usually, when he gets out he will pick me up and then we will go by his house so he can shower and everything, but this day he told me i'm gonna go home first and then i will pick you up. So i still didn't think anything of it. When he got to my house he rang the bell and i went to the door and told him just to come in that it was open and then he told me to come outside. All of a sudden i see him get down on one knee in the snow and he began saying how much he loved me and that we've been together for a long time and now it's our time. then he asked me will you marry me? Well i was shaking and in shock that it took me a good few min to realize that he just asked me to marry him lol...so then he says i can't get up until you say yes. so finally i was like omg yes of course i'll marry you. Then he got up and kissed me and hugged me it was so romantic and in the snow was soo nice. It was definitely the most romantic day of my life.

Re: How did he do it?

I'm such a nerd...I have this whole thing written about how he engaged but I will spare everyone every little detail that I wrote (lol I want to remember always).

Basically, my fiance contacted his major supplier and asked them to print out a letter on their letterhead that said that he won a prize. So, the prize was a ride on a hot air balloon. It's not unusual for him to win cool things like that. The day we were supposed to go rained so we had to re-schedule so when his co-workers weren't there I didn't suspect anything. We were up in the air when he proposed. It was so great and the hot air balloon pilot took pictures of the whole thing. And, when we landed (around 7am) we drank champagne! Doesn't get any better than that!!!

Re: How did he do it?

My very talented sister had been choosen to dance in Walt Disney World FL. one weekend this past january. So being my fiance & I are two of her hugest fans had planned to go down to Disney for the weekend. Little did I know he had a whole other reason for taking the mini vaction. As a child I grew up OBSESSED with cinderella. Well, my fiance used that knowledge to his advantage, after a really crummy flight and other small upsets - I turned to him and said 'god is this trip ever goint to get better.' he smiled at me and said 'Dont worry babe were going to the Magic Kingdom - You'll feel better once we see the castle' so the bus ride from our hotel to the magic kingdom was sooo quiet - I should have known something was up - but NEVEr in a thousand years would i have thought what happened next was going to happen anytime soon. We Entered the park and walked up the side ramp to the castle, there he stopped and looked over the ramp - turned back to me and said - ' I need to talk to you about something' Then continued to tell me how much i mean to him and how he loved me ----- then got down on one knee and told me he wanted me to be his cinderella, - followed by will you marry me, well - my whole body turned numb - and he tells me that there were people watching, clapping,. but i honestly cant remember if they're were, it was just so amazing, and it took me atleast 2-3 mins to answer because I was in such SHOCK! later on we were able to celebrate with my family, it was just really wonderful! I am soo lucky! As im sure you all feel!

Re: How did he do it?

Well I have to say Brody my fiance definitely made it the most special day of my life. About 6 months ago we decided to plan a trip during April break to backpack through Europe. I'm graduating from Law School this May and it was always something I wanted to do. So as a graduation present to myself we decided to backpack through Paris, Rome, Venice & Amsterdam. I was really super excited because I had never been out of the country and this was really a dream of mine. Well since we booked the trip I always had it in the back of my head that he may propose while we were over there but he really hid it so well I pretty much talked myself out of it since there were no signs. Well the first day we arrived in Paris we met up with some friends who were actually there visiting as well and then did a wonderful bike tour. Both exhausted from the 8 hour flight we got to bed early that night. The next morning we had a little hotel room picnic with fresh strawberries, orange juice and croissants and then headed off to the Eiffel Tower. After going to the top Brody suggested grabbing some lunch and eating it on the lawn right in front of the tower since it was such a beautiful day. After we finished he got up and threw away our trash. When he came back he asked me to stand up and give him a hug. Once I stood up and gave him a hug he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Ofcourse I started balling my eyes out and saying yes and I gave him a huge hug and kiss and didn't want to let go. It was definitely the most amazing day of my life!!

Re: How did he do it?

My fiance proposed to me at Nassau Coliseum. My parents were there, and so was his mother. He had been planning it out since July of 2006. He kept a record of everything he was planning. He pulled it off really well, because I had no idea what was going on. He contacted someone from the New York Islanders and he had it worked out were someone was going to come over to where we were sitting and ask me if I wanted to answer a 'trivia question'. I at first put up a fight, (a little shy to be on a scoreboard!!) then I gave in and said OK, I will answer the trivia question. When the first period was almost over, the woman and a camera man came over to us and they brought a few of the Islanders Ice Girls (sort of like hockey cheerleaders) with them, and they asked me what my name is and were my fiance and I were from (which they already knew all this because this was all planned out from the get go). One of the ice girls said my fiance, and my family can help me answer the trivia question. Then they told me to look up at the scoreboard, and my trivia question will appear. I looked up, and the question appeared VERY SLOWLY!!! The scoreboard read: 'Melinda will you marry me? Love, David'. I was so shocked and so happy. I couldn't believe that this was happening and how romantic it was how he proposed. To this day I look back on that day, and, it just puts a smile on my face. It made me realize how much we love each other. Both of our families were very happy about this. The ring was the most amazing ring. I love it so much. He picked out the ring all on his own which makes it even more special. He knew that I would love it and that, that ring was what I would like. It was the most amazing feeling that I got when he asked me to marry him. It was a wonderful feeling. Every girl should get to feel this wonderful feeling of love, happiness, excitement and joy. I am so happy and in love with a great guy. I can't wait to marry him.

We got engaged at Cinderella's Castle too! I also put my long version on another thread, so I will spare the details as well LOL. Basically we went to breakfast at Cinderella's Castle because I always wanted to eat there. Its always booked, even a year and a half ahead of time. Paul told me he was able to get reservations through a friend (yeah right ) and he really got us the engagement package in the Castle! So after breakfast he kept saying 'We should get dessert'...and I was like 'with breakfast?'. I was wondering why we weren't leaving because we were done with breakfast by that point. So then the waiter brought out an elegant china plate with a cover, only for me, and Paul had told me he had a suprise...and he was like here it is! So the waiter opened the cover and there was a crystal glass slipper on a bed of rose petals and the ring was in the middle wrapped around a closed rose! It was so beautiful! He got down on one knee and I was shaking...and he had a photographer there to take pictures of everything. Then after they gave us champagne and a white chocolate slipper dessert...and Paul was like here's the dessert LOL. They let us keep the champagne flutes and slipper I just remember I couldn't stop hugging him and shaking LOL

Re: How did he do it?

Since more people have joined since this was originally started, I figured I would 'bump' it by adding my story: (sorry so long!)

We both had off and decided to go to the beach. He wanted to stop by Hofstra to see if we can bump into any of our old Professors. We always wanted to go back to visit, so this was not something out of the blue. (we actually did bump into my fav professor who was totally busting his chops on why we were not engaged yet!)

We get to Hofstra and start 'going down memory lane' We talked about everything and all the fun times we had. We were driving along and he then pulled over and he was asking me if I remember the memory we had in that specific spot. I had no idea, and at that point I wanted to hurry up and get to the beach so I was getting aggravated! I asked him for a hint and he got out of the car and walked to the passenger side and opened the door. He then asked if I remembered yet, and I said no. He asked me to open the glove box and inside there was a poem about first love. It was very sweet, but he does things like that, so I still had NO IDEA!! He then asked me to close my eyes 'but don't get to excited, it's not what you think it is' (again, he always does that to me, so still NO IDEA). I open my eyes and there he is on one knee and he asked me 'Will you Marry Me' I first told him to 'Shut-up' and 'Stop lying' and then I go to jump out of the car but I am still buckled!!!!! I unbuckle myself and started screaming and yelling and said 'YES'. He then sat me down, asked me if I was ready to accept everything that comes with what will happen when he opens the box, I said Yes again, and he opened it and put the ring on my finger and I went straight past cloud 9 and went on like cloud 1million!!!! He then gave me 2 dozen roses, 6 of them were white to represent the 6 years we have been together!!!

After all was said and done, he said that now this was the new memory we have at Hofstra!

We spent the rest of the day visiting family and at night he took me to the Marriott Marquis (The View Restaurant) and we had an amazing evening!!!!

Re: How did he do it?

He took me to see the lion king on broadway for our five year anniversary. It was great!

Then when we got back to the island and He had a picnic dinner ready for usto take to the beach. SO we went to Jones beach which was closing cause it was late. We ate and then left to go to another beach...which was closed...........so then we tried to go to another beach closer to my home and smaller and that one was closed to.....so by now i figured it out!

And we ended up inmy home town of Bayport at Bayport beach which is really a mini beach! So then onthe beach close to midnight he popped the question.

Re: How did he do it?

During the first week in December 2006, FH had told me that we had a 'business Christmas party' to attend at Carlyle on the Green. He went so far as to e-mail me an invitation to the party. He picked me up the night of the 'party' and when I got in the car he pretended to be on the phone with a co-worker who was supposedly meeting us at the party. Of course I had my suspicions that today would be 'THE DAY', but once I heard he was talking to a co-worker about meeting him at the party, my suspicions disappeared and of course diappointment settled in. I knew he wouldnt propose infront of coworkers. So we arrive at Carlyle and FH practically drags me to the most beautiful spot on their grounds...overlooking the golf course. We stop at a bench and he tells me that people are watching us so of course I turn around to see who these people are, but only to find out that there's not a person in sight. So of course now I think he's just crazy and when I turn around to tell him just how crazy I think he is, I see my gorgeous engagement ring staring me in the face with FH asking 'Will you marry me?' I immediately begin to cry and FHthen says 'wait, let me do this right' and proceeds to drop to one knee and again asks 'Will you marry me?' I say yes, cry some more, we hug, I cry some more, we kiss, I cry some more...We then have a celebration at his house with his family and mine...he couldn't have planned it better!
