How did I get so lucky??

How did I get so lucky??

I often find myself thinking that when it comes to Scotty. He is such a sweet, happy, caring, well adjusted boy. I could go on about how amazing he is all day, but I'll spare you the details

The thing is, sometimes I worry that what I've worked so hard to try and teach him will come undone but things that he'll learn in school from other kids. I already hear things that 1st graders have said that just blow my mind.

I'm sure Scott Petersons mother didn't intend to raise a child that would go on and kill his wife and unborn son. How do you keep that from happening to your child? It's so scary...

Re: How did I get so lucky??

I'm glad to see you posted this because it has been on my mind since our discussion last night, too.
First of all, I think that Scott Peterson is a sociopath and in that case, his parents missed that as he was growing up. And they shouldn't have. I personally think that there is probably A LOT that we don't know about someone like Scott Peterson, and there were probably signs that something was not right with him...but maybe the people around, including his parents, didn't know how to read those signs.
Like I said last night, I think that if you have a relationship with your child or spouse where you talk about things like this, or if you are the kind of person who has these things on your mind, then it's very likely that you are doing exactly what you need to to avoid raising a child like that or ending up in a situation like that.
You may feel blessed to have a child like Scotty, but it's not just a blessing, it's a direct result of the hard work that you've put into parenting him. That alone will be your best asset as he grows into a well-rounded, honest, caring adult. I only hope that when I have children that they end up like Scotty. You're lucky to have him, but he's lucky to have you raising him!

Thank you so much Rach. You made me cry! I guess Scotty and I are blessed to have eachother. He's certainly helped me get through some very difficult times, even though he's only 6. I will always do my best to be the best mom that I can. He brings me so much happiness and makes me smile every day

Re: How did I get so lucky??

You know what, as much as your answer SHOULD be the standard answer from a mom, it's unfortunately not. As a teacher, I am witness to many parents who do not put their children first, and I am also witness to what happens to a child who is not put first in their parents' lives. You are what every parent should be, so when you see those kids who are cursing up a storm at such a young age, or a baby with a cigar in its mouth , just know someone wasn't doing their job at home. The fact that you do nothing but the best with your son should be every reassurance that he will grow up to be nothing less than what he already is....WONDERFUL!

Dont ya just love that little look or hug. that makes it all worth while? That makes you never want to let go of them or let them grow up. They do not know how much it means sometimes.
