a dj and/or band. we are starting this process and are wondering the best way to go about it.
do we visit showcases or go to their offices. FH and I are very particular about music and about the dj in general. we don't like loud, in your face kind of dj- we just want one to play the music WE want and make various announcements.

We started with showcases and referals. The band we originally wanted (which we saw at a showcase) was booked for our date, but we went with another band from the same company.

I HATED dj shopping. So many are fake and just try to sell you. We went to both showcases and offices and when we found the right guys we knew it.

we narrowed it down to a bunch of bands that were recommended on this site and by friends, and then went to showcases of the ones that were available on our date.
It took forever, but we are happy with our decision, so it was worth it

Mostly showcases and word of mouth. We went to a ton of showcases and saw tons of bands both on video and live.
My advice is to go see them live and see them in action at a party on video. Meet with your MC to find out his personality.

call first and find out if they're available for your date. then go to the showcase and listen to them. take at least a day or two to think about it, don't be hasty.
don't go to a showcase without calling first--you don't wat to fall in love with a band and then they're not available

I think showcases and referrals are your best bet. Then you can make appt. to meet with them once their showcase is complete. I actually posted on here for recommendations, then contacted the bands! Good luck!

daybreaks night was recommended to us, so we checked them out and loved them... we kept looking though, we heard jand R entertainment at a corporate party for GE and they were great so we knew we liked them , we got their dvd to let our family hear them, and then we got cds from other bands...renegade, nightflite, body rock???i think that was the name, and finally we went to hear Heart and Soul and timepiece another franklin wayne band, and they were fabulous, of course heart and soul, who we wanted was the most $$$ out of who we were looking at, but we wanted the music to be great, so we went with them (saw them at 3 showases and booke at the 3rd)

Actually, I solely used these boards. I went to the brides review section and looked for the ones who didn't ever have a single negative thing said about them. I am working with Vinny from High Voltage who never tries to sell you on something that you don't need but I would also recommend Music by Michael. Both are extremely talented, highly rated DJ's.

We booked with one that we saw in action! They did my dads wedding last dec. and they were so awesome!! My fam had also used them a few times before that so it was a no brainer for us. We're using Feel The Vibe (izzy and eddie). Great prices too.

Jess, I tried calling them, but I got their machine. do you know if they have a website? I want to see if they will be doing any shows in the near future.

we asked around for recommendations, then we called a few and asked if they had our date and to send us a dvd. We saw a few dvd's and then decided who we wanted to see live. We called and asked for showcases and went to see them. Our Band is Renegade from LIPARAMOUNT. I love what I have seen of them and I've heard nothing but wonderful things about them!

We went to showcase and saw them live... I think thats the best way!!! We booked the band code bleu. We also saw the band Vision at the watermill and they were amazing as well!!!

Saw a few at showcases and knew what we wanted and didn't want. Also went on recommendations from theknot since it seems there are a lot more latin brides there...we narrowed it down to what we wanted (latin owned and operated company and DJ/MC) and since there are only 3 in the tri-state area, we met with 2 and went from there. The ones we missed (didn't meet with) are supposed to be awesome though, they did Audrey Puente's wedding.

We knew what we wanted, and what we didn't want, but knew exactly what our budget was.
That's where we started - figured out our budget, and then through posts on here and pricing quotes...we narrowed it down.
I never met our DJ (High Voltage Sounds) but I am VERY confident in our decision. He's received amazing reviews, and he was very professional and always kept up with my questions with a swiftness....
But...I'm not here to sell him...

Referrals and then meeting with them. A few of the DJ's we met with were the in your face type and only would play 20 songs that we wanted, and then couldn't even guarantee that!!!
We finally booked someone we were both very happy with and very comfortable with. That, and he said he would guarantee 90-95% of about 60 songs that he asked from us instead of the 20 everyone else asked for.
