Hi ladies. I am pretty new to the website however after surfing it for the passed few days, I can tell that you all are very helpful! Therefore I have a question.. how did your bridesmaids to be in your wedding party? I am looking for something unique and would like some ideas.
I wanted to ask them in a cutesy sort of way.. but my mother shot me down. She told me that no one does that and when she was in a wedding in 1986 the bride just called on the phone to ask. She told me I was being silly by wanting to do something special or cute. So I listened to her and just ended up asking them at the E Party. I asked them individually. I regret listening to my mother though.. because I would have liked to do what I wanted. Had I been on LIW at that time I so would have done somehting better.
The cutest thing is the card they make with the little dress and tuxedos on them.. and it says will you be my bridesmaid/groomsman? And then there's a cute poem inside. If I did what I wanted that would have been exactly it. When I came on LIW and saw some pics of what I was thinking.. I was a tad pissed at my mom for talking me out of it. Now I just won't listen to anything wedding related that she says without really thinking it through and still even then I trust myself more. I realize she hasn't been involved in many weddings, nor has my grandmother - so they just don't know what's done anymore.

I asked them each personally. Some brides have done really cute cards and things like that which I wish I would have done! I saw a couple of ideas on this site so Im sure youll get some great ideas!
Just to let you know.....your wedding date says January 2009.
This site is the best and all these ladies help so much!! Your gonna love it!

I had a telegram guy come to a dinner where all my girls were. He sang a whole song incorporating all of them (we wrote it together) and at the end asked each to be a bridesmaid. It was really the best thing ever. Everyone still talks about it. He handed each a card as well. FM me if you want his name and info. They aren't expensive at all and its worth every penny!

I wrote each of them a letter and gave it to them at my engagement party. And then the waterworks started!

Most of mine are pretty entertaining....my one sister I was in the bathroom, and I shouted down the hall to her. Classy!
My other sister I asked as we were shoving lettuce wraps in our face at the Cheesecake factory.
My cousin I just asked at her house...no big deal.
FSIL I asked at FH's house, we were sitting at the kitchen table with FMIL, so I asked FH to come from the living room for a second, and he was being really annoying asking why, so he came over, and I reached back to touch his arm to say that we wanted to ask her to be in the bridal party, but I aimed wrong and grabbed his crotch, right in front of his mother and sister.
My one friend I think I asked over coffee, or lunch, I can't even remember, and that's pretty bad.
My other friend I asked at dinner, after a stern talking to about how she had been acting like a b**** since I got engaged.
As you can probably tell, big shows of emotion aren't exactly my strong suit lol.

FH and I wrote poems to all of the bridal party members and then framed them. Then at the engagement party we pulled out their place cards and made a special table with their place cards and poem. So when they came in they saw the poem, which had their name on the top. It was great. Lots of tears and hugs. Even better of course after they truly read the personalized poem they were crying again. So there were more hugs and more tears. It was really special.

at my engagement party in two weeks... im giving them boxed cupcakes with that 'will you be my bridesmaid' poem on it.....just to make it a little more formal

i sent them cookies that were bridesmaid dresses and they were in a pretty box that said will you be my bridesmaid
My two sisters (MOH's): not necessary to ask. They knew they were going to be in the BP. However, they thought I'd ask one of my friends to be MOH so I wouldn't have to choose and when they asked who was MOH, I simply said 'Both of you!'
Roe (known since 7th grade): Had to ask her over the phone b/c she was in Italy visiting her family when I got engaged.
FSIL: asked at FIL's house. FH asked his brother to be his best man and his mom got all teary-eyed (she's super emotional). So then I asked FSIL to be a BM, and her response was 'I already knew I was. You didn't have to ask.'
Michelle (known since we were 6): She was asking if I knew what colors I wanted my BM's in. I responded 'Yea, you look good in red, right?' She was completely blindsighted and the question went right over her head. She was like 'why does it matter what color I look good in?' I had to actually spell it out for her.
Jenna (old college roommate): I only get to see her once or twice a year b/c she lives in California. She was home with family in NJ over Christmas so we met up in the city the week after I got engaged. We were out to dinner talking about everything and I just said 'so you're going to be a bridesmaid right?'
Nicole (friend since I met FH): she was over our house looking through my vendor books. I was going over what was going to be on the menu, and she turns to FH and says, you know I'm just coming for the food right? (she's a chef). I turned and said 'I thought you were coming to be a bridesmaid....'
I have one more who I haven't asked b/c she lives in Connecticut and I have yet to see her since before I got engaged.

I went to Micheals and personally made them really cute cards. I haven't posted them but they were so cute and each one had a bm poem in it. Then I wrote a personal message to them.

I asked casually, I asked my cousin the last time she visited, and MOH on the phone, didn't have a choice she's in med school, out of town. One I have not asked yet.
