How did you choose your photographer?

So now I'm trying to find a photographer. I have been looking at websites, but I am getting to the point where my eyes glaze over and they all start to look the same. I have a meeting with Verdi tonight and I like most of the photos on their website, but I am wondering what I should be looking for as far as prices and packages. What are you getting in your photography packages? I know that Verdi starts at $3,500 and I am wondering if it is worth it for their most basic package.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I am paying less and I just felt it was right w/ my photographer. You have to look at the albums and see which photographer will shoot your day and see their work. Vist a few and compare work and prices. Go w/ the one you feel comfortabe with and trust your instinct b/c you will begin to second guess yourself.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I only met with 2 photographers, Glenmar Studio and Cassarino. Glenmar came highly recommended by my hall (Woodbury Country Club) and when I met with them it just felt right.

I'm paying about $2,600 for my package.

Good luck with your search! Let us know how it turns out.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

Like the other ladies have said it is definitely a feeling...I went to see the higher end photographers and the ones that were on the lower end of the scale, but it indeed has to be a fit...both in feeling and in budget. Our photos was something we did not want to bargain with, so when we budgetted we decided that we would cut some place else to get the photographer we wanted.

All the best to you sweetie and happy planning

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

set a price range and look at photographers that fit into your range and then go from there. You are right they all start to look the same, depends on what you want, if you want something different than you probably havnet found it yet. Do you know what style you like?

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I'm using JoVon, check them out at jovon.com. I would suggest prioritizing all the vendors and then figuring out within your budget how much that leaves for photography. For me, it was very important. I love pictures and I feel that the photos will last a lifetime and I know I will enjoy looking at them all of the time! We're having a regular photographer and a photojournalist.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

My hall had sample albums for their recommended photographers. I chose (my mother and I) the 3 that I liked best, and went with my FH to the actual studios to check them out.

In the end, I agree, go with what feels right. Photographers is something that you don't want to skimp on, but you can get quality without blowing your entire wedding budget.

Good luck.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

We asked around and went with who my sister had... Rick and Co. His work is gorgeous! The pictures are so clear .. I know that is a big thing when looking at pictures. He is located in Holbrook, but worth the drive,. His price is also a lot less then what you were quoted.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I looked in LIWedding pages before I knew about this site. Saw Patken's photos, went in the studio, looked at their albums and loved their work.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I choose Verdi as my photographer. I really figured that the photos and the video is one thing that we will always have to last forever. Therefore, I wasn't that worried about the cost. Beyond the 3,500 we will probably wind up paying about 5,000 for them as all the extras are a la carte. I picked them because I loved their style. They are very unobtrusive and candid. They really didn't want to take me away from my cocktail hour which was very important to me. They had very nice personalities which is also important because I am going to be spending all day of the most important day of my life with them. I'm sure you could find somebody for less money but I just kind of felt youget what you pay for. Also you know exactly who will be shooting your wedding. Let me know if you have any questions before you go to your meeting tonight.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I met with a number of photographers with varying prices.

One of the most expensive ($6,000+) photographers I met with had nice work, but I wasn't fond of his personality, which would influence our (wedding party) behavior in front of the camera.

The least expensive ($2,500) photographer had just as nice work and was really likeable. I knew the girls in my bridal party would really like her!

I feel that if you're not comfortable in front of the camera, it will show through.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I used Verdi for my first wedding. They do an amazing job. That was back in '96 and their prices of course weren't that much back then. But they really do quality work.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I booked Cassarino for my wedding. REASON: I've seen them in action, and asked specifically for Nick, since he did my g-friends wedding. To this day, it's the best completed album I have EVER seen. I'm paying $3500 and that is one of the packages in the middle, plus I got a few freebies.
They were wonderful !!!!

You just have to interview them, until you fall in love with one that also meets your budget. You get a feeling when it's the right one. Go with your gut.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I visited with 12 photographers. Searching for a photographer was what I spent the most time on. I used Verdi for my wedding a few weeks back. I too have an appointment with them tonight to pick up my proofs. I will tell you that I highly recommend them. They were wonderful to work with. I saw a few pictures already they took and they came out beautiful. I cant wait to see the rest!! You need to figure out what kind of photographs you want and go from there. Also, remember that the photographer will be with you most of the day. You need to feel comfortable with whoever you book.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

It's definitely a comfort factor. After seeing 5 other photographers, we chose Glenn Edwards because he did a cousin's wedding, and we just felt 'at home' as soon as we met him. His work was great, and his prices were reasonable, so we went with him.

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I agree...set a price limit...then get recommendations...know what you want before you go (photojournalism, # of proofs, b/w vs color)

then see which one has the best package for you and fits well with your personality...

I used VIP:

some of my proofs

Re: How did you choose your photographer?

I agree with what the other girls had said. My FH and I searched for the right photographer because having the right 'fit' was important to us. We had to visit about 12 before we knew which one we wanted, but as soon as we saw her work and sat down with her, we knew we found our photographer.

Also, I have found the planners at Bliss Weddings very helpful. I like having a checksheet with questions when I go in to visit vendors and I have founds the ones there to be rather comprehensive for all the basic information. They also leave room for the questions you personally want to ask.
