people on your guest list that were not invited with a guest asking to bring someone? Were you honest and told them there was a limit or did you just tell them it was ok to bring someone.
I'm thinking it's tacky to say no?

ughh i think its tacky when ppl ask! but if someone asks me depending on if we need ppl or not i would say yes.. but if we had too many ppl then i would say we have a limit and we are at max!

Re: How did you deal with....
The only person that did that was Shauns moms 70 year old cousin... i would have invited him with a guest had i known he was seeing someone...
I would just be honest with everyone though.

Re: How did you deal with....
i dont think it's tacky at all. in my situation, a lot of my friends are single, HOWEVER, they all know each other and due to my large a$$ family, I cannot allow them to bring a guest, but, as time goes on and I see who responds, and whose in a serious relationship AND I've met them, most likely i'll allow it. i just dont want people filling a spot for no reason.

This is so frustrating!! If it happens (which I have a feeling it will) I guess I will just have to be honest...

Re: How did you deal with....
I agree with the previous post that it's tacky to even ask! But then again I look at it as, they are invited to the wedding so I have to have some relationship with them (unless it's my in-laws list which is a different story) and I should be able to tell the truth. I have told everyone who asked that there really just isn't enough room. We invited 300 and it just causes problems if one person brings a guest and others see that. I just kindly tell them that 'I'm so sorry but we only invited people in serious relationships or married with guests, we just simply don't have the room.'

OMG. i think its tacky when they ask. this is the biggest probelm i have, na dFH doesnt understand what the proplem is and its bc the way the RSVP is worded. umm no!!!! if the outside says Mr. Joe Smith, one person has been accounted!!! i have had no problem telling them that they are coming without a guest. im sorry but i dont have an unlimited amout of money and room!!

This really was our reasoning! You girls are right...I'll just be honest. Weddings are too darn expensive!

Re: How did you deal with....
Nobody ended up asking us. But if they asked I don't think I woulda said no to them to bring a date. I don't think its tacky to say no tho. If u can't afford or ur at the max with how many people ur room holds u don't have a choice and ur guests *should* understand.

Same here, except it was my dad's 70 year old cousin and then when I told him she invited a guest and I didn't invite her with one, he yelled at me for not inviting her with one. I was like 'YOU GAVE ME THE LIST!'
Anyway........we let her bring him.

Re: How did you deal with....
we had a few people do this. we didn't say anything bc we were going to wait and see if we reached the number we wanted and if we started going over we were going to say no, but we never reached it so we never said anything. 2 of those people gave us $40 for them AND their date. i wish we said something.

Re: How did you deal with....
i've been honest. if it's a friend who just started dating someone, i said yes. if it was a friend who just wanted to bring someone, i said no.
we don't have the space and the fudns for all plus 1s. we invited only those with bfs/gfs/fiances/spouses with guests. if you're single, you're coming alone.

Re: How did you deal with....
I have only had 2 peeps do this...One invited a date, but since her parents aren't coming its fine that she brings a guest, and second is FH's cousin who is now in a relationship, and that is fine too.

Re: How did you deal with....
for us it kind of worked out....people didnt start asking to bring guests until closer to the wedding when i was able to tell that we had enough No's and could add on other guests....hth

Re: How did you deal with....
I plan on handling it on a case by case basis. Anyone that it became/will become an issue for I told them that if as the wedding comes closer, they want to bring someone to let me know, I will see what my guest list looks like and my no's but that I can not make any promises. Everyone has understood that explanation.

Re: How did you deal with....
Generally its on a case by case basis....but if you just wanna bring a random date then the answer is no. If you're afraid to go a wedding alone then then answer is no. On your invited is you YOUR NAME! I dont have space and $$ to accomodate your comfort levels.
