I'm 6 weeks in, and I've concealed my pregnancy from mostly everyone. I will tell family, on Xmas day, and would like to wait until mid-Jan to officially spread the news.
However, being that the holidays are here, I've been invited to quite a few gatherings. My problem? How do I still keep that I'm pregnant a secret when I know people will notice me without an alcoholic beverage in my hands @ company outings, friend's get-togethers, etc?
Help! TIA!

Say you're on med's for a sinus infection or something like that.

I have found it is not possible to keep it a secret when we're out to dinner or parties with friends. It's just too unlike me not to be at least enjoying some wine, and they have all suspected immediately. Trying to cover it up with a lie about medications or something would not have worked for me. Hope you have better luck than I did - I really did not want anyone to know this early!

Yeah, I was going to say I'm on antibiotics, so I can't drink... and I'm avoiding any work outings until make the announcement (of course, I can't avoid the holiday party, but again, I'll fake an illness)

carry around a beverage that looks alcoholic (ie: 7 up can look like a 7 & 7 or cranberry juice looks like Cranberry and vodka)

I thought about that... but sometimes my girlfriends like how my drink looks, and ask to sample it.
littlewilson, I'm afraid of the same... it's extremely rare that I not enjoy a drink when I'm out with friends, so I know they'll immediately suspect something, unless I give a good lie.
I think I'd like to use the antibiotics lie, but how do I sell it? I was thinking about complaining of stomach pains beforehand, and say that I had a stomach virus... that sound ok? But wait, then some might think 'hmmm, upset tummy, maybe she's preggo!'

I am known to be a drinker so I figured I would be a dead give away esp in the summer with many many bbq's but I managed thru. I wanted to tell people when I was ready and felt more safe to do so and I wasn't ready at 6-10 weeks.
I went to two weddings and a family party where I drank 7-up with lime (everyone assumed it was a vodka tonic) - but be careful there because some places give you a different glass for soda. Also at BBQ's often DH would leave his beer bottle in front of me and I think people just assumed it was mine or didn't notice I wasn't drinking. I even went as far to hold a glass of wine and ditch it when no one was looking. If we had parties at my house, DH always made me non-alcoholic pina coladas or something simliar and no one was the wiser. Other than that I did skip out on a few happy hours saying I was busy...One funny time both me and another friend's wife skipped out and a few weeks later we found out she was preggo - wound up we are due a day apart!!!

Wonderful ideas, also if you can help it, make sure you fix your own drinks or have DH make them. That way your friend does not offer you any acohol without you knowing. But, some people will pick up on it-that you are acting different, if you are always drinking.

i never refused wine and pretended to drink it. Nobody will be watching you that closely so just touch the wine to your lips or take a few tiiiiiiiiiiiny little sips infront of a few people to make sure they saw you. That's what I did and nobody knew....

hehe - I did that one too - lol. My friend even asked me what I thought of the wine they were serving at the wedding (it was supposedly awful)...

If you drink beer i heard girls of carrying around a beer can with water in it. Also with regard to wine, my sister just sat with the glass in front of her and then handed it to her DH to drink it for her and give it back to her so that it seemed like she was drinking it...he wound up getting twice as drunk
I also heard of DH ordering drinks at the bar away from everyone else nad bringing over a non alcoholic drink that looked like alcohol.
I have been out with girls that i found out were preggo and actually never guessed it till after the fact. In fact a girl on my bachelorette party was preggo adn you would never know...she just carried around a single beer the whole night.

I think I got THE BEST excuse why not to drink: 'I was out last night, and had too much to drink' - HANGOVER! My friends definitely have heard me say that once before, so it'll be easy to fake!
