How did you pick your dress?

How did you pick your dress?

I am about to start looking for my dress (hooray) and my BM dresses. When I look through magazines, I see some styles that I like, but its hard to picture what they would look like on me. Is it worth it to keep buying magazines, or did most of you find your dress when you were actually in the store? At least for my dress I have a basic idea of what I like, for BM dresses I have no idea (not even color). I am hoping this will all come to me in some miraculous vision in the store Any suggestions on preparing for the search?

I took pictures I liked with me to give the lady who helped me an idea of what my taste is. Some of the styles I liked and thought would look good looked horrible on me. I wound up buying the 3rd dress I had on. Have an idea of what you like and go with an open mind.

I have some ideas, and will have to get all my magaznes out to get an idea of the style that I really like. I am just worried that I will be overwhelmed with all of the choices.

I had no idea what I wanted for my BM so this is what I did. I went to a few stores with whichever BM's wanted to come along, I let them choose a whole bunch that they liked and I had them try them on. We only went through 2 dresses when my sister put on a pink A line with a halter top that I thought I would hate. Well it looked great on her. I had my other BM's try it on and it looked great on them too. That is the one that I got in the color that they tried on.
As fas as my dress I tried a few on that I liked until I put on one that I loved and that is the one I got. I would try on all different styles though. Even though you may not like the way it looks on the hanger it could be the perfect on for you.

I'm still looking for a dress. I went with pictures originally, but then I tried on a couple of different styles and changed my mind.

I'm looking mainly at a-lines, tank straps, some beadwork and a chapel length train.

I don't think I found any dresses that I saw in magazines.

I saw mine in a magazine and cut out the page and cut out the page to bring to the store. I tried it on and loved it. For the BM dresses, I knew the color I wanted & that I wanted seperates so the girls could pick what they each liked. I went to a couple of stores until I found a good price and what I was looking for, got the girls together and let them pick.

Re: How did you pick your dress?

I loved (and still do) looking through the bridal magazines. However, I found them to be more for fun and than helpful. The styles that I liked in the magazines are not the styles that looked good on me at the bridal salons. I used to hate when people would say to me that when you find your dress 'you'll know it's the right one', but I have to admit that is exactly what happened to me. I tried it on and loved and I couldn't stop and still can't stop thinking about it! Everytime I would picture the dress a huge smile appeared on my face! So I guess that's how I knew it was the right one. But just enjoy the experience and good luck! You'll find the perfect dress for you!

Thanks all so much for your replies, I really appreciate it. I am looking forward to trying some different styles on to see what I like and what looks good on me....hard to tell in pictures of models with the dresses on, they always seem to have some crazy hair or draumatic pose that makes it hard to picture the dress on little old me

Re: How did you pick your dress?

I went to David's bridal and chose about 12 off the rack that I thought would look good on me, tried them on, narrowed it down to 6, went back later on , narrowed it down to 2, and then to 1, and bought it. All in one day. Strange, I know.

For a start, looking through the Bridal magazines is a good idea. It is funny I would never of picked some of the dresses in magazines to try on, but when I tried them on from the rack, they looked good, but I didn't admire them in the magazines, so just head for the rack and be prepared to stay awhile and try them all on. Good Luck!

Re: How did you pick your dress?

I looked through a whole bunch of magazines and ended up with something totally different than what I planned. Some people find their dress out of the first couple they try on, but not me. I tried on twenty something dresses. After trying different ones on is when I knew what I was looking for. Good luck!!! It is only the beginning of the fun!!
