that you were pregnant? I have to tell my boss this afternoon. I have no idea how to tell him. My due date is February 3rd and according to my maternity leave, I receive 2 weeks before the due date and 6 weeks after. So I guess that would mean (assuming that my due date is accurate...) my last day of work should be January 20th, which is a Tuesday...
How do I break this news to him???

Re: How did you tell your boss...
I just walked into my principal's office and said (with a huge grin), 'GUESS WHAT?!'
She caught on immediately!
Good luck telling!

Re: How did you tell your boss...
i think it all depends on the company and the boss. my boss is very easy going. i was 6 weeks and had already had 2 mornings that i felt quesy on the train so i knew i would need to work from home a few times that is why i told him so early. i sat down and told him that scott and i are expecting our first child in late november. he was shocked and happy for us. then he asked me if i thought of maternity leave and if i would be coming back to work. i told him what i thought the plan might be. I would also make sure you know how your boss feels about working moms. if he is very negative, i would wait to talk to him until i learned more about the subject. good luck.

Re: How did you tell your boss...
I just dread telling him... I guess because one of the women in my group is leaving in 2 weeks for her maternity leave.
He doesn't seem to have a problem with working moms... I think it's just my fear.
I think I'm goint to wait until around 3pm or so to tell him...
Why am I such a coward???

it is scary to think that you might have a work problem , aka money issue, if he decides that he doesn't like the idea. it is very natural.

I chickened out today... I think I'm going to wait until Wednesday when I come back from my doctor's appointment.

Re: How did you tell your boss...
I finally did it!!! I have no idea why I was so nervous. He was great... congratulated me and all that... when I mentioned to him that I have a lot of doctor's coming up, he just said, 'don't worry about it, just let me know when they are'...
So glad that's over with... I must be the most ridiculous person in the world!

I am glad. Are you going back to work after the baby? If so, I highly suggest reading up on the topic. I have been reading A Girlfriend's Guide to Maternity Leave and it is helping me a lot. I also read A Guide to being a working mother. Both provide a lot of insight.

I'm actually going to start classes this fall for a 2nd master's degree, so by the spring semester I'll be taking care of baby and going to school...
