How do I approach this?

How do I approach this?

FBIL is in our wedding party and lives in OR. We were searching for months for an affordable flight for him to come out for the wedding.

Finally we managed to find a flight for $200 on Southwest, which also got him coming into Islip, which was great. The timing was a little tight, but no big deal. Other flights we found were $400 and up, so I knew we had to jump on this.

Well, he didn't have the money at the time, and didn't want his parents to cover him. I asked FH if we could cover it, and he said fine. FBIL swore his DH would send us a check to reimburse us for the flight in 2 weeks. That was over a month ago.

Now we have final payments staring us in the face, and while $200 is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, it would come in handy. Do I ask him where is the check? Wait until he brings it up? Or just not saying anything and chalk it up to well we want him to be there with us?

Bring it up! I'm assuming he is an adult with bills to pay just like you and Andrew. He may have honestly just forgotten about it or may just need an extra bit of time, but don't let him make you guys pay!

I wouldn't say anything. Afterall, it is your FH's brother, and Im sure you guys would have done anything to have him there. I would just eat up the cost (unless he brings it up). If he does, GREAT. If not... Im sure him being there at the wedding is worth MUCH more than $200.

That's tough!! Since it is FH's brother, I'd let him bring it up to his brother......I know FBIL is family, but I can't stand when people don't pay back what they 'borrow'. If FBIL ran into financial difficulty and couldn't send the check in 2 weeks as he promised, he should have TOLD your FH........putting your FH in the position to ask for it is pretty crappy, IMO.....

I would do this as well, but if he again doesn't send anything, I would just drop it.

I'm not one for 'dressing' things up...I would present him with the bill and ask to pay at his earliest convenience.

I agree with JXNOscar, have Andrew bring it up to him just to check on things. You would want to know if your check got lost in the mail. Don't get suckered into paying for him, but it may have just slipped your FBIL's mind, so I don't think it would hurt to ask him what's going on.

I agree. I would have FH do this though.

I think that FH should call him and ask him when he's putting that check in the mail - it was a loan, not a gift.
