They have a part in the ceremony where the officiant will remember those lost but not forgotten on this special day maybe you can talk with the officiant and play the song then. That's my suggestion instead of the reception I mean people are usually teary eyed already at the ceremony.

thats a good idea - thanks! i just dont want to make anything awkward or like 'moment of silence'y. i was also thinking of maybe just writing a nice passage or something along those lines and including it in the program somewhere.

That is also a nice idea.
My great grandfather passed away 2 yrs ago and I'm going to put a picture of him on the dresser so when the photographer takes a pic of me in front of the mirror that pic of my grandpa will be in the background of my pic. Hope I helped.

When I get married my dad will have been gone for 3 years. He used to have this fun dance with my sister and me when we were young to Elvis' Hunka Burnin Love. So, after FH and I have our first song we are going to transistion right to that.

my grandfather did a few months before my moms wedding... when the time came to do the father-daughter dance my mom got up with the microphone and said '6 months ago my father passed away of cancer. So I'm asking if everyone will get up and dance to this next song in his memory' she played 'wind beneath my wings' and everyone pretty much got up. it was so weird... by the end of the song everyone was in a HUGE circle on the dance floor, even ppl that diudnt know one another were dancing together in this huge cirlce. it was very moving and i know he wouldve loved it.

'it was very moving and i know he wouldnt loved it.'

Wait, you think he would not have liked it and thus do not recommend it?

Re: how do i fit this in?

haha i'm gonna assume she meant 'would've'. thats also another great idea - although my mom passed away like 7 yrs ago so its not a recent thing. I think i just may go with putting something in the program - a friend of mine did something like that at her wedding for her dad.

can you play her favoritre song at the reception?

Or maybe have a candle lit at the ceremony for her (no one has to know - just you) it might be nice to have something symbolize her prescence.

I went to a wedding once - the sister of the bride (their mother had passed) carried a candle down instead of a bouquet, and then set it at the alter.

i think it's beautiful you want to honor her - I don't think it will 'bring the mood down.'

I agree with Bunny -- I think it is beautiful to incorporate your mother! Not to be all wacky and religious (I am not) but I am of the belief that she will be there with you anyway. She would be proud to have raised such a thoughtful daughter.

My friend's mother died of breast cancer a few months before her wedding. As favors, they made a donation to American Cancer Society and gave out beautiful scrolls saying, 'In lieu of favors, a donation has been made in the name of XXX to XXX.' It was beautiful and touching.

I agree with Bunny 100% - I think it would depend on the type of song you were playing - and the type of ceremony you are having. If you are RC - we have a special prayer point in the ceremony to Mary. I think that would be a really appropriate time to recite a passage or play your mom's song... unless of course its 'shake your grove thang,' or anything by the Bee Gee's
