Re: how do i get coconut out of the shell???

I tried everything!!!!

Then I look it up online and you are supposed to heat the coconut in the oven BEFORE you crack it open.. well, GEE, what good does that do me now?

I'm trying to pry pieces out with a butter knife, it's not working. Tomorrow, when it is not pouring rain, I will put it on the sidewalk in a plastic bag and smash it to bits.

Re: how do i get coconut out of the shell???

the best way is what you said- smash it on concrete or something outside. it should come out in little pieces.

Re: how do i get coconut out of the shell???

I thought we took an ice pick and stuck it between the shell and meat and tried to split it. That's what I remember from my childhood!

Oh I remember those days when I lived in PR. The hard meat is the hardest, I like the soft meat. I use to take a spoon or knife stick it right in try to push out piece by piece.

I learned this on my honeymoon...

In Tahiti, they use a sharp knife to grate the coconut out of its shell. Then they place the freshly grated coconut in a towel and squeeze firmly to get the milk out. Then the grated coconut is used in recipes for meals and cakes before it dries out.
