How do I make a website?

How do I make a website?

I want to make a few websites, and I don't know how to go about doing it.
I made one in college, but that's about 7 years ago!

What software do I need to buy, and how do you get an IP address (is that what it's called?)

Do you want to make a really professional one or just a place to post pics? I think if you are an AOL member, Hometown lets you build one for free.

You can get a free one through geocities . It is ad-supported. You don't need to purchase any software. You don't need to know HTML.

I found geocities to be the best of the free hosts because you can completely customize your page if you wish, but they also offer a few good templates to get you started.

I find MS Frontpage the easiest to work with. If you're doing a wedding website, you can do one easily on theknot.com or weddingchannel.com. If it's for other stuff, you can just buy a domain name (not IP - that's your personal browsing address). Go to cheapdomains.com - it's something like $8.

I want to make a professional one for my DHs practice.

I need something that will look professional, but will be easy to create...I don't understand the HTML stuff...I like the idea of drag and drop, etc.

I'll check out the geocites.

Any other suggestions.

Re: How do I make a website?

there are many many hosting companys that will give you a regeistered domain name (yourname.com) and a ton of webspace
some even have webbuilders similar to geocities. i payed a company like 75 bucks and did this... babylovesme.com

i did this using Microsoft Front page (apart of office suite).

I used http://www.bravenet.com . It was just for fun but it is free and easy to use. They have many templates to choose from and a lot of cool stuff to add, like guestbooks, counters, etc.

I first tried HTML, but it took too long and was such a pain when you want to learn how to do anything. I used Front Page. Stony Brook offers quite a few non-credit classes in web site design--I taught myself but if you want to make it look very professional you may want to take a course somewhere...Here is the site Good luck!

www.networksolutions.com

Great website to buy a domain name and create a professional looking website with no experience. It is very user friendly.

I suggest the Macromedia products, Dreamweaver, Flash and Fireworks. Why? Because Macromedia works on both browsers, IE and Netscape.

Dreamweaver is the application where you design and create the website and it is a WYSWIG (What you see is what you get).

Check out this site if you are interested in taking a class:
