After looking around this site I have a list of like 20 phtotgraphers and Im sure there are some i am missing which seems like alot!
I want to eliminate the really expensive ones which from this site steered me away from mark kaufman, and Verdi.
I am definetly gonna meet with VIP, Duvall, Laurie and Imagine.
I am looking for a mix of color and b&W, candids and posed with a little personality,
I have been putting off starting this search because I knew how much I need to learn before i could make an educated decision but now i am getting nervous and overwhelmed, any advice is really appreciated.
Thanks

i was actually just on the knot.com and there was a horrible review about them being really rude, ahhh this word of mouth stuff sometimes gets even more confusing!

Re: glenmar
I think that is glenmar in New Jersey that they were talking about on the knot. Are they the same photographers?

Re: glenmar
Yeah, the review on theknot.com was for a Glenmar Studios in Lodi, NJ. The Glenmar Studios that we've been discussing on this site is located in Roslyn. I went to see them, and was impressed by their work, and their prices seemed decent.

Do you have any specifics on cost and what is included in their package and video?

Re: Glenmar
Don't quote me on this, because it was a while ago, and I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think a decent sized photo package including a bridal album, parent albums, and an engagement shoot, plus an in camera edit video was about $3500.

met with Laurie studios
and i liked them alot, i met with Ken who was very nice, someone i could definetly see myself with all day. he first showed me an album which had both photojournalism and regular photographer and it was gorgeous, it was a 4k album though
They have a few different priced packages where you then have the ability to choose what goes into that package including albums, thankyous, etc. which are priced individually.
To add a second photographer to do the photojournalism it costs an additional 550$ after which the pictures that that extra photographer have taken will be included in the price you are alotted... kind of confuzing but if you chose to 3k then you might not be able to afford to put all those pictures in and wasted the 550$,
the other option was to just go with the photojournalistic photographer alone (who used to work for mark kaufman) who i thought did a great job from the things he showed me but he says the portraits and stuff really arent the same quality.
So i definetly have alot to think about, in order to stay in my price range it wouldnt make sense to get both photgraphers and not be able to have all those extra pictures put into the album, but he seemed to think i really didnt seem to love all the photojournalistic pictures. One thing i need to figure out is parent albums, if my fh parents dont want one we can put that 600$ that wed save toward the second photographer.
Ok now that you are probably just as confused as me, ill post after i meet with VIP tommorrow.

you can make really nice parent albums yourself. does this place release the negatives to you after you order everything?

Tara,
I'm glad you liked Ken. I booked him, but am still waffeling on the 2nd photographer. I booked them without the 2nd photographer, but Ken told me I can add her if I want to. So if after I have booked all of my vendors, I think I will be able to swing it, I will add her. I am keeping my fingers crossed becuase I really liked her work. But I don't think it is going to make or break my album. I added the two hours overtime to the 3K package though. I have almost two hours between the ceremony and reception so eight hours wasn't going to cut it for me!
Keep us posted. VIP does great work, too.

hello again
Becky, I need about 10 hours coverage as well so I would be a little over the 3k too, are you doing parent albums? My UW friends suggested in addition to the extra proofs I could just get some extra prints in different sizes and make an album myself, which to me would just be a fun project which would allow me to be able to afford the second photographer. Did you think about using Barbara alone? I am thinking about that too. Really I just feel that i need 2 and little princess me wants what she wants hee hee. SO maybe VIP will be better for me I just hope their work is good, i though lauries was nice but then again some of the photojournalistic ones were so so. And Jpsgirl no they keep your negatives, both places actually which is really annoying because then if you want more you have to pay more. Becky i think its a great idea to see where you are as far as finances in deciding on the second photographer, I may have to do the same but this was only one photographer, i really need to meet with a few, thinking of making another appointment on thursday but with who??

Re: tarakinspa-past post on photographer
LeeLee mentioned on this board on a photographer named Danielle Katz. The website is http://www.lovekatz.com. She is pretty reasonable and is willing to travel. I haven't met her yet but I know her rates go up in 6/1/02. You get all your proofs with the watermark on the back and all negatives. I hope this may help as you have helped me with your original post on photographers

Actually, I am not doing parent albums at all. My parents don't want one and Keith has three older married siblings and his parents had never heard of a parent album. Instead, we are going to get each set of parents one 8x10 to add to the family picture walls they both have! I think they will get more enjoyment out of one photo they will see all the time than an album they will probably never look at.
I didn't consider hiring Barbara and not Ken, because I am not THAT into the photojournalism thang I like the black and white spontaneous pictures, but usually if someone catches me unaware, the picture ends up being a nightmare. An ex once swept me off my feet and had someone take a picture. Yeah, it was a photo of my big fat butt! I am too worried that my wedding photos would come out like that. I am much more concerned with haing 'perfect' as opposed to spur of the moment photos.
Also, I wasn't sure if you knew this but, unless you get the 5k package, the proofs cost abot $300 for the entire set. They also sell them by photo, but I can't remember that price.
Yuck, have to leave work early to go to boring Sports Banquest with Keith. Nothing like spending an evening with a bunch of inner city high school kids!
Keep me posted and good luck. Looking for a photographer was AGONIZING and I am so glad that I have that out of the way. On to DJs...

VIP
Just got back from meeting with VIP, well when we were done since we were in port jeff me and eddie got an ice and walked down by the docks hee hee fun!
Anyway on to the important stuff...... Becky i think Laurie is out for me I really liked VIp and they were alot cheaper, i mean they give me both photographers and they have been working like that for a while so they really know how to coordinate. I will probably spend in the 2500 range and end up getting the book that ken showed me cost 4k!
I still think I should meet with a few more, maybe this danielle katz person, who else did you meet with? I am getting sick or traveling i might try Lavender Studios is mass near me who my aunt used, what about jeffrey studios?
I am gonna do a search on here to see what the feedback is on VIP but i think Im sold.
Im sure you know that I love John...and can't wait to see my pictures (even thought they haven't even been taken yet!! )

Of course I havent had any photos taken so I cant really give you any feedback, BUT I think he is working with another studio this weekend at my friends wedding, which I happen to be in, So if this is true, I will post about the experience after the wedding, (which is sunday, so look for post on Tues - back to work then).
Also post after she gets proofs back, hope its a great experience, so us VIP brides will be very happy.
i will keep you all posted kimberly

Glenmar
I spent about 4k on pictures and video, got a 50 page album, parent albums, 2 8x10s (one is a digital color photo, where it is b/w with some elements colored) a couple other sizes (I think one larger, a few smaller) and 100 thank yous. The video is edited, with effects. I think that they are really great there and worth a visit. They will work with you on price and I really liked the work. There is a bride on weddingchannel.com who just used them, so I am waiting on her review!

I wrote a long reply to you this morning, but I must have screwed up because it is not here!
I am glad that you liked John. I met with him and I thought their work was great. For some reason, I just did not click with John and could not picture myself being comfortable with him being with me for ten hours! He did not do or say anything that put me off at all. He was very nice and answered all of my questions. I just felt like I needed to keep looking.
I love Ken and after meeting with him I knew I had found my photographer But if you didn't get that feeling from him and his work, you should keep looking! You will know when you find the right one!
I also met with Mk and Photos of the Heart. PH was a little more expensive than VIP, bu definitely less than Ken or MK. Ultimately I decided that MK was too photojournalistic and PH was too posed. Ken was juuuuust right!
Good luck. I hope you find the perfect photographer soon. VIP gets great feedback on this board and I am sure your pictures will be great if you go with them!
