How do I take a Pre Cana class when I live in CA and am getting married back in NY??
My FH and I live in California but are having the wedding back on LI (both from there). We would like to have a priest marry us from the parish we both grew up going to, but we wont physically be in NY to take the time to go to the courses there before the wedding. Anyone know how to go about this? Haven't spoken to the church yet, I am hoping they will have a solution.

you can take pre-cana in any diocese in the world. i asked my priest about this because i couldn't do the one that my church was offering. he told me i could take it anywhere i wanted, it didn't matter.

Ooh good to hear. I would prefer to take it with the priest who will be marrying us, so he could personalize it a bit. But I probably won't have that option... Thanks!

My brother and SIL live in DC and got married in Connecticut. They did it in DC and brought their certificate to CT and it was fine.

I moved to NC in July 07 and I am getting married in NY in January. I did my pre cana in NC. We received the certificate and now just have to hand it in and fill out papers at the church.

I live in FL,and took precana down here. you just have to make sure your priest in CA coordinates with the priest in NY. I gave him the NY priests ph#, address, name of church etc. So, as we completed the FOCCUS test, pre-cana, etc, he forwarded everything to our priest in NY.
Just contact your local diocese and they will give you the times/dates of pre-cana and how to sign up. they didnt refer to it as pre-cana down here. it was called 'engaged encounter' class. and it was 1 day for 8 hours. it was painless and easy!

pre-cana isnt done with the priest, its a host couple that you do it with. I did pre-cana in my area, my church doesn't do it and most of us in queens go to this one church in douglaston. The first day a deacon did come to do a mass, but thats it really. The rest of pre-cana was just with the host couple
