I would call the insurance company if this is something different from what you're used to, but yes, from what you're describing it sounds like you have to pay 5K before the ins will start paying your bills which means u owe the gyno $750 because the ins co is applying that amount to the 5K you have to pay out of pocket... but verify with the insurance first.

It could be a mistake or it could be a contract change that no one made you aware of, but don't pay anything til you verify.

And you're welcome!

make sure your gyno is currently in network with your insurance. and as far as deductibles go... its rare to have an in-network deductible if you have a copay. its possible, but not that many ppl have it.

was it a regular visit or did you have a lot of testing done? either way, check out what the gyno billed you for and check with your insurance.

750$ for a gyno visit is insane. something is up. and having a 5,000 IN NETWORK deductible is obsurd.

how much is your specialist copay??

God and I'm mad because I just got 105 dollar bill for a lab test!!!!!!!!

Basically, every plan works differently so without knowing what your individual policy is, its hard to guess what happened.

I know when I was under my parents insurance, you had to SPEND $500 or $1k in medical billings before they would start to cover anything...

Like I said it depends on your plan, i'd talk to your benefits admin. The other possibility is, if you have to go every 2 months, that your plan allows you 2 visits a calendar year (thats what mine does, but only 1 pap) and any additional visits you get billed in full for.

I paid the specialist copay 45.00, same as I have for five years.

Checked my card from last year too and it says the exact same thing from every year after that...

It was a regular visit no testing other than the usual...

I work for a pediatrician and handle some of the insurance claims. It is very important to call your insurance carrier EVERY JANUARY as that's when they change their policies. You can have the same plan for many years and then they scr**w you....

If that is the case and you have to meet a $5,000 deductible I would look into changing plans ASAP. If you are never really sick you will end up paying more for than plus the monthly payments. Try getting a hospital only plan or something else. I have BCBS through Healthy NY. Its pretty good. It covered my gallbladder removal in December.

Insurance is a pain and sometimes cheaper to go without it. The only thing is if you end up in the hospital and get an outrageous bill. The ins companies make all the money, not the doctors. Its sad but that's why so many people go without it. Its just too expensive

***You can FM me if you have any questions. I'd be happy to help!

Ooooh, see, that makes even more sense that they might have changed something this time of year and added a deductible all of a sudden... if you're not super extra diligent about keeping up with any changes they MIGHT make each coverage year, it can slip by unnoticed until you need to use the insurance (which is stupid and not fair).

Good luck, let us know what happens when you call them!
