How do some of you survive financially?

Original post by WeddingsRock

I was reading the thread on expensive pocket books and I was amazed as to what some people spend on bags. I know that different people have different priorities but we are barely getting by and each month is becomes more stressful. I work two jobs and FH has an okay job.. We have a combined income around 80,000 and we don't live large by any means and we can barely pay our bills! What do some you ladies do?

DH makes enough money that both of us could easily live on. My salary is pretty good, but probably amounts to one-fifth of his.

We live off of his salary. The day after he gets paid (once a month), I withdraw a lot of cash from the bank and from that, give him his allowance for the month, give myself one, place a seperate pre-determined amount of cash in an envelope clearly marked 'groceries', and the do the same with an envelope marked 'pharmacy' and then place money in an envelope marked 'maid' (a 2x a moneth indulgement!) That is what we live off of!!!!

(we don't use cc's except for office expenses) and we don't further touch the account without the others permission.

My entire salary and all bonuses gets banked!!! I never see it!!!

Stacey, I totally hear you.

I'm a teacher in a Catholic School & took a 15k paycut from the business world, but I'm soooo much happier. Eventually I will get into the public schools, I have another year to go on my Masters.

You have to do what will make you happy. Money helps, but it isn't everything.

FH and I rent, we just got a new car, we go away here/there and we go out once or twice a week with friends, but I am a bit scared how we are going to swing it when we start saving for a house. The wedding alone is totally setting us back. It's scary. Thankfully neither of us have any cc debt and he has nice $ in his 401K.

FM me if you have any q's

just a suggestion...start looking for jobs before you have the MA...then you don't have to put it on your resume...

I know it sounds strange, but many schools look to hire teachers without MAs yet, so they don't have to pay they so much...(my old school was the prime example of this)

when I went out into the 'burbs...I just told them I was working on my MA...I got the job offer in April and finished in May...so I didn't really lie...and I got the bigger salary

Thanks, but I believe NYC public schools are only hiring CERTIFIED teachers as of this past September.

I did things backwards & was in the business world for 10 years. My undergrad is in Psych.

Is it still possible? I'm taking my last teacher cert test (the CST) on Saturday.
