If all you want is your rights to ur pics then yes its a great deal and youre getting what you pay for.. i think you might be able to get them to throw in some stuff tho

I would love albums but I don't think we can afford them on our shoestring budget =/ I tested the waters of price negotiation and it didn't seem like it was going to happen. This isn't a big studio, it's an independent guy, so I guess he has less room to be flexible. IDK.... AHHHH I so badly want to stay on my budget I haven't gone over on ANYTHING yet and I don't want to start because once I start... I will be unstoppable...

There is always room for negotiation especially with independent guys. They need the work even more than the big studios. I am paying 4600 for photo and video. I believe the photo alone was about 3000 and I a getting ALOT more....... Photographer all day, album, parent albums, more pics, all pics on DVD, thank you cards, engagement pics, save the dates. I am using Patken and I lve them.

In my email with him he definitely didn't give off the impression he was willing to budge-- I feel like I'd like to meet in person and see if he will work a little, either throwing something in or coming down a little for the higher package so we can get an album (his albums a la carte are over 1k!!!!!!!!!), but I feel like a jerk asking him to come out from Brooklyn to LI to meet us if we don't book....
I have looked into Patken, I was not sure they are my style but I will look into them a little more since everyone raves about them! Thanks for the info :)

Don't feel like a jerk. He should be coming to you if he wants the business. I would also meet with other photographers even if the price is higher than you want (if you think they include more in the package). Because the way to negotiate is say look at this package I am getting... I really want to book with you but I can not justify spending only x amount less and get so much less.
If he wants the business he will either add more to his package or come down in price.
With regard to Patken. They do have a very specific style so if it is not what you are looking for then I would not meet with them. Don't feel like just because other people like them you should!

I have 10 hours of coverage, thank you cards, an album with 60 pages for under 2200. The price sounds pretty good compared to other places.

Thanks for the input everyone! I still have a lot of shopping to do it seems! I neglected to mention that those rates were for two shooters, so I guess it's probably fair, but I would really hate to walk away without an album even though I'd get the rights to the pics. FH and I have managed to get away with booking things without visiting too many places so far (I know what I want and don't like to over-shop usually) but it looks like I really should meet with several of these people to see what they offer in person.
