how do u bookmark stuff?

i had this problem... couldn't fix it... I clicked on the the little yellow notepad thing and it sent me to the home page and never put anything in my notebook. It used to work and then it stopped. I got a new computer last week and now it is working. Someone told me once that it has something to do with the kind of browser you use. But to me that doesn't make sense bc i had XP and it worked and then it stopped. My dad had installed all kinds of virus software and a lot of features stopped working.
