Re: How do you...

I asked my hotel if they recommened any hotels.... and they did and the hotel I blocked rooms with even includes a shuttle to our reception hall. Anyway, all my FH had to do was call and tell the lady how many rooms we wanted to block off. We just blocked off 10 rooms for now, maybe we will do 15. We didnt have to put any deposits down for them or anything. I think like a month b4 our wedding, we have to have the number amounts of rooms that are going to be used. Our guests are going to be responsible for calling and providing the hotel with their credit card info, etc. After that, they will release the rooms that we will not used. HTH!!

Some hotels require you to pay for any unused rooms in your block. Others just release them 1 month prior to your wedding and you don't have to pay anything. Also some will give you free shuttle service if all of your rooms have been booked.

Room blocks mean that you get a set rate for your guests at a hotel that is usually cheaper then their going rate for those dates. Usually your guests can call the hotel and reserve a room at this rate for up to 1 month before the wedding.

How this works varies by location. Some places require that you guarantee rooms, some will only require that if you go over a certain number of rooms, some will cap you at 15-20 rooms.

I called about 10 hotels when I did this. I asked them:
1) how much the room rate is
2) how many rooms will they hold
3) do you have to guarantee any rooms (this means that if you don't book that many rooms you have to pay for them)
4) if you go over the number of rooms you have blocked what happens, do they extend the rate to the other guests (if rooms are available). Several hotels required that I renegotiate a room rate at that point, which I was not ok with.)
5) if they have a bar that stays open and until what time
6) do they charge you to keep the bar open
7) what is the breakfast situation?
8) what time is check in and check out
9) do they help you arrange transportation from the hotel to the rh and back
10) how much is your room (if your planning to stay there). Some places comp your room if you have over a certain number of guests. Others charge you exactly $100 more then your room block.

I recommend going to the hotels. You can see the rooms, the suites for yourself and get a chance to ask a lot more questions. You can see the bar, the pool (if its summer), etc. Also negotiate. If you like one hotel better and get a better price from another hotel, go back to the one you like and tell them. They will compete for you to a degree.
