How do you choose a DJ?

What questions do you ask? Do you see them do something?

I am clueless about how to go about this but I need to book someone soon!!!

TIA

OK~ here's my big issue, we got engaged a month ago and are getting married in 5 months so I really don't have time to wait for a showcase.... AHHH

do you have any friends who have gotten married already and can give you some advice or suggestions on who to use, or who not to use? That is how I came to my decision and I am only looking at the dj's that are recommended by someone who I trust. I am going to see Dance Jock next week, I have 4 friends who all used them and raved about them i was at the weddings and thought they were great.

Thing is we have a lot of friends who were married in the last year but nothing that stood out as being fabulous. About half used bands which we know we don't want and one of the DJ's (from the girl I'm closest to) was terrible. Mis-Prononced the grooms name wrong when introducing the bride and groom to the reception!!

All I know for sure right now is that I don't want them....

well that is a start and I think if you get a bridal magazine they will give you questions to ask the dj's when you go to book them, and they should have videos to show you. ALso we went to see In The Mix last week and they gave us a few dates of weddings they will be doing and where they are so we can come by and see them in action if that is something you would do otherwise I would try to find some showcases so you can see and hear them. I also heard good things about Big Hits.

I used Ray from Variety Music on a rec from a friend. Ray was amazing! he matched a price I got from someone else and really did a great job for us. our guests were on the dance floor all night! and I also loved the fact that he is not at ALL cheesy. he was a total professional.

Some questions.

*How many years have they been in business?

*How many DJs do you get?

*Do you get an MC?

*How many hours do they play for?

*Do they provided music for the CH?

*Do they take requests from the guests?

*What is the payment plan?

*Have they ever played at your hall before?

*Can you request songs to be played or not to be played?

Re: How do you choose a DJ?

I checked out all the DJ websites I could find, and then got recommendations from the LIW brides.

I only met one in person (FM Entertainment) and Frank puts on a really good showcase where he goes through exactly how he does things. He was great at my wedding!!

Re: How do you choose a DJ?

showcases are the way to go! plus ask friends who have had a dj what they thought of theirs. if you were at a wedding where you had a great time, call the bride and ask who she had

more questions

How many breaks do you take?

is music played during breaks?

what type of equipment do you use, do you bring backup equipment in case of emergency?

responsive to 'must have' and 'do not play' lists?

ask to see videos of actual weddings. listen for good mixing from one song to the next without abrupt stops in music?

ask how they get people up on dance floor?

what do they do if they are playing a song and not many people are up dancing?

Re: How do you choose a DJ?

when we booked our DJ, he showed us their selection of music on their computer, talked to us about how the whole day would go down on his end.....and then he showed us video footage of weddings at our reception hall.......no need for an actual showcase.

we booked energy entertainment. i recommend mark...he's great.

Re: How do you choose a DJ?

Ask anyone who you liked and saw at their weddings. I personally did not go with anyone I had seen at a wedding, I went with someone who made me feel comfortable!
