How do you clean your water cooler?

How do you clean your water cooler?

We have a stand alone water cooler (the kind with the hot and cold taps) in our kitchen. I really want to clean it out good, we've had it for a while, but have no idea what to use. I really want to make sure any cleaning agents get flushed out, so I'd prefer to use something non toxic. Any suggestions?

We have a GE hot and cold one too. It is actually recommended that you flush it out every so often with 1 tblsp bleach for every gallon of water you flush through it. THat bleach will prevent bacteria from building up in the nozzles.

You can also use vinegar and water, but that won't have the same bacteria killing properties as the bleach.

Do you feel like the bleach is flushed out well? That kinda freaks me out, you aren't supposed to ingest bleach.

Yup, it will be OK, just make sure you are using at least a gallon of water (if it makes you feel more at ease you can use a little more), which will dilute the table spoon of bleach which will cause no harm
