How do you deal with ...

Today is 1 week I'm engaged and i already wanna smack some people well one person haha.
How do you ladies deal with friends or family members always putting their input on your wedding? Not so much suggesting more like you have to do this and you have to invite this person and you need to call this person and do that this way.

I used to to let it get to me and now I just say 'Oh, are you paying?! Thank you so much!' They shut up pretty quick. :)

I got it all the time when I first got engaged and when everything was first being planned. Now everything is basically booked so most of the comments have stopped. It will get easier!

I'm the youngest of 5 girls. no brothers . only the oldest is married my 3 other sisters aren't . My oldest sister isn't my father daughter but he raised her since she was baby. But dad oldest who is the only sister i have living here in NY while the others live in florida. she is my biggest headache.she is a B**ch. When i lost 30lbs and everyone was like wow u you look great. her and i got into a huge fight cause she felt like i should have told her i was working out and stuff. When i got engaged she just said whoop whoop thats it. Now she has been emailing ,texting ,calling. calling other ppl who i dont even know i want at my wedding telling them im getting married. and to order invites or have them be my planner . so much stuff. its very overwhelming

Oh man! I'm so sorry. That's crazy. I had something very similar happen too. People constantly asking what we were doing, how much we were spending, who was coming....blah, blah, blah. People constantly saying 'why so much? all for one day..??'. My attitude was well if you're not paying for anything, please keep your thoughts and comments to yourself. Period! My FH and I aren't ridiculous people, we're perfectly capable of keeping a budget. We certainly don't mingle in on other people's financial decisions/choices. Recently one of my FH Aunt's (wife of his uncle, not blood aunt) bullied my sister (MOH) and that's really when I lost it. I'm sorry. I've never disrespected anyone in my FH family...ever! I didn't appreciate someone practically attacking my sister. This was 3 weeks ago...hasn't even had the courtesy to apologize for her behavior. It's put a dark cloud over everything. My shower is next week and now we're all just blah about stuff. We're just trying to finish the rest of the planning hoping she won't have something else to say before, during or after the wedding to my sister. It's a shame that things happened this way. My sister has never done anything to her. This whole time thankfully we haven't been stressed. We've enjoyed every part of our planning and now we have to deal with this. It's so annoying. I know for myself, I'm just trying to get passed this. I refuse to give her any attention and allow her to ruin the karma. It shouldn't be! She won't be an adult, then as far as I'm concerned anything past cordial is far too much for her. I am an adult and certainly won't miss out on any family functions when I'm not the one that has a problem with the family. I won't bow down to her or sink to her level. I will take the high road and continue on. My suggestion is whatever works for you will come naturally. If you want to talk to her and ask her to please only limit herself to giving solicited advice then that's the way to go. I'm sorry for your sister but it isn't her time, it's yours! But if she can't be spoken to than you will have to decide what is a better way to handle this situation. As you said it's only been a week...better to deal with this now before it gets too later or further along the wedding planning. I started planning over a year ago...this crap with my FH Aunt just came to light and we're two months away. I have no idea if she's just been itching to start trouble. She is one of those kind of people - attention seeker, conniving, trouble maker, bully...like a kid at recess poking at another until they pop. Enjoy the planning. It really is a lot fun. Don't let anything ruin that for you. It's how I'm able to handle my own problem. Hope that heplps. Good luck. Happy planning!

OH LORD!!!!! I hear you... with our wedding we paid for it all ourselves, yet everyone had a damn opinion !!!!! It comes with the territory and gets very annoying!!! Just remind them that its about YOU and your FH!!!!! Than they kinda back off......for a day hahaha

The best and easiest thing to do is learn to ignore them and block it out. It will make your life much easier. Somebody will always have something to say, or a better way of doing something.

I sidestep any confrontations and say 'that's a really good idea... I'll have to look into that'. Then I just do what I want. When it comes up again, I say 'FI and I ended up going in a different direction.' In the end, you have to do what makes you happy. It's your day.

I ignored everyone and eventually they stopped giving their unwanted opinions.

I would say thank you for the suggestion and I will keep it in mind, and then just do it how I wanted to when it came down to it.

Honestly this is the best advice! We're lick enough to be receiving some help from family...but those aren't the people with the opinions lol if people want to add their two cents just let them talk and then just say yeahh i wish i could do that but its just not in the budget. really most people stop after hearing that. best of luck and just try to enjoy planning!

At first it would piss me off and let it get to me too!! I'd start thinking about what others would say, their inputs, their 'suggestions'. It was so bad that I started second guessing myself. Until one day, driving to work, it hit me. HOLDD UPPP...WE'RE PAYING FOR THIS!!!!!!! Why am I listening to someone who isn't giving me two pennies? So now, I just learn to smile and say ' NO thank you'. They hate when you're all smiles. It kills them!!! Try to stay calm and collect girl. Trust me...!! And if they REAAAllY piss you off, go get yourself a bottle of wine. Bottoms up!
