Hi... I do not want to buy my veil from the same store where I am getting my gown (too $$). But then, how do you make sure that the veil you buy perfectly matches the color? I think my dress is technically called ivory, but it is not NEARLY as dark as most ivories I've seen. I would call it 'cream' or 'off white', myself. How am I going to buy a veil without having the dress to hold it up to?
(I'm hoping the answer isn't to get a swatch of the dress fabric, b/c I was hoping to go veil shopping before I will be able to get back to the dress store...)
TIA!

I'm sorry, I know this isn't the answer you wanted, but that's what I did. On the bright side, my veil will be in more than a month before my wedding.

I think you need the swatch. I haven't been veil shopping yet, but one place where I looked said to bring in a picture of the dress and the swatch in order to match the color. I have the same color issue with my dress.

you are going to need that swatch... There's no way to know without having the fabric in hand. Can your dress shop mail it to you? Or perhaps you can get one directly from the dress company?

Diamond white is usually safe, its very slightly off white

Did you see if your designer makes veils?

Re: how do you get a matching veil?!
We went to Barrons in Tri-County. They were much much cheaper than our bridal shop, and will custom make whatever you want (custom lengths, trim, color, detailing, etc).
We brought in a swatch -- my bridal shop didn't have a piece of my exact dress, but they gave us a scrap of another dress they were altering that was the same designer, fabric and color and assured me that the color wouldn't vary that much by dye lot. We are going to use it to dye my shoes (possibly, my dress is only diamond white to begin with) and we brought it to Barrons and left them a snippet.
They had a chart of about 10 colors of tulle and they help you decide which is closest, and then make sure the trim (if you have trim) matches the swatch as well.
I am goign to try on my veil with the sample dress on Saturday so I will let you know how close it is!

Re: how do you get a matching veil?!
Thanks girls. I plan on going to Barron's sometime this weekend. Even if I can't get my veil without the swatch, I can at least look at headpieces. Couple more questions: Does Barron's allow returns (I'm assuming no, if they make your veil)? And how long does it take to have a veil and headpiece/tiara made? Hopefully I have enough time before 5/31. Thanks!
