Re: How do you get cat to..........
There is some sticky tape that my friend got at the pet store. It was double sided she put it on the counter for a few days and her cat stopped jumping up- guess she didn't like the sticky feeling on her paws.

Re: How do you get cat to..........
This is what they tell you to keep a cat out of a crib so it will probably work for a counter, its pretty simple - get a piece of cardboard the size of the area you want the cat to stay off. Use either double sized sticky tape or, I would recommend using packing tape and just rolling it so there's a sticky side showing too. Put it on the counter-I was assuming your cat is doing this at night. Cats hate anything sticky so this is a good way to get them to not want to go there. It doesnt hurt the cat and deters them pretty quick. And its not cruel like (IMO) using a water gun to shoot water at the cat to deter it from unwanted behavior.

I would love to know how to keep the dogs off the furniture!!! i guess we could all use a dog trainer on this site
Novemberbride, i dont blame you, my BIL has two cats and they are always on the counters.. it wouldnt be soo bad but everthing has cat hair ALL over it.. .my niece made frosted cupcakes and you could barely see the frosting because there was cat hair stuck to them!EWWWWWWWW .. When ever my MIL cooks the cat just sits on the counter right near the food.. yuck!!! so i dont blame you...

If we use double sided sticky tape, won't he get stuck and not be able to get off it?

Re: How do you get cat to..........
thanks for the sticky tape suggestion. Our cat is starting to do this too and while I dont like it, my DH is becoming insane trying to get her to stop doing it I'll ask him to stop at the store on his way home from work.

Re: How do you get cat to..........
We do use the watergun when they jump on the furniture. My DH is going to flip out when I tell him what the cat is doing. He is very neat and does not want cat hair anywhere and especially on the counter where we prepare food.GROSS!

Re: How do you get cat to..........
put fabric softener sheets on the furniture (Im sure it will work for the counters too!!) Cats do not like the smell of them but make sure you check them every once in a while, as the smell goes away, the kitty will return!!

Re: How do you get cat to..........
No the tape is not supposed to be that sticky - (as far as I have heard) I don't find the water gun to be too helpful. My cats just do what I don't want them to when I'm not looking with the water gun...lol...Actually mine don't jump on the counter - so I guess I'm lucky

Spray bottle full of water. If you squirt him/her every time he/she tries to get on the counter, they will stop. This is what I had to do. It worked wonders...

He only does it when we aren't around. I know because things are knocked over and I see cat hair.

Suzanne,
When DH and woulld leave our Dog would help himself to the couch. I stopped it by putting tinfoil on the couch. They hate the sound. It worked for us.
