Heartland - I Loved Her First

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ab4VRWX8y1A

I don't know -- It's really hard for me to find a song. My dad and I are not close and a song talking about how perfect I am would be a lie... LOLLOL. I know there has got to be a lot of brides on here that are hands down mommy's little girls But anyway, what do you think about this song? Kind of sounds like a song a dad is singing while the bride&groom are dancing... But I know a lot of people use this song...So who knows!!

Lyrics:

Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

That is why I am using 'The Way You Look Tonight'. I was never really close with my father. I had also considered 'I Hope You Dance'.

Which version of 'The Way You Look Tonight' ?

My sister pick a song our dad would sing around the house because she said they haven't made song to express her true feelings. That's other thread. Is there a song that means something to him?

Well, that is one of the main problems. We are Indian, and though my dad has been in the US-NY for over 30 years and very modernized, he doesn't listen to English music. Hindi songs are beautiful, but they don't really have father daughter themed songs.

I didn't even know my dad wanted to do a father-daughter dance, until they asked me if I had any thoughts on one! I was actually so happy he thought of doing one, as its not even that common for our tradition!!

I love that song!!

My FH is dancing with his step mother who he's not very close with (long story). So we chose Sunrise, Sunset by Fiddler on the Roof. (We did choose a different artist than the original thouhg). And Fh will dance with his step mom at the same time I dance with my dad.

Which artist did you pick? I'm listening to the Fiddler on the Roof version... I'm wondering if your version is sang differently?

That is the song I am using to dance with my dad and I cry everytime I hear it!!

The more I listen to the song, the more I love it. I was actually on wedding-wire and that is the only song that I fell in love with... I'm Indian, so most Indian people don't even do a father-daughter dance...Kind of stupid when it comes to this! LOL!

I went to a wedding recently and father/daughter danced to that song. I thought it was so fitting and just really beautiful.

I like it. I don't know if I would use it though for myself. I'm probably going to let my dad pick a song, I'm not very mushy, so even though I am close with my dad and we have a good relationship, i don't know if i want to be overly emotional with the song.

I am not overly emotional with my dad, but I am with my mom. My dad is nice and all, but we just aren't close, because he is an all businessy type of guy. He comes home from work, eats dinner, watches the news and passes out! We mainly speak when there is a real reason...or when I was younger and did something wrong, haha.

I wish my dad would pick a song... but he is not like that, plus because we are Indian, he doesn't really know of American songs!

We used the first verse and chorus of this song at our wedding and then we went into a chorus of My Girl.

I LOVEEEEEEE My Girl!! I was actually listening to that song to see if it would fit...But parts of the song, I felt were too lovey-dovey. I would love to hear how your version flowed together!!! Is there a way that I could?

I used this song for my father/daughter dance. I am just as close with my dad as i am with my mom and it meant a lot to us both...gorgeous choice but if you're not close with your dad, another song i saw used which was nice was Rod Stewart's 'Have i told you lately that i love you.' It was really special

I thought about Rod Stewart's 'Have I told you lately' I love that song... A few of my friends thought it was too much of a couples song... But if you've heard it as a F/D dance song, I will so consider it. I'll give my dad a few options

omg i LOVE this song...this is what i will be using

Me and my dad are not super super tight...but i love this song and i read the lyrics and tear up!

country people know how to write a song lol

LOL, seriously!! I actually told my friend that today... Country people are lyrically THE best when it comes to love songs. I never realized that till today!! Haha.

Me and my dad are not super tight as well, but at the same time, we don't have a bad relationship...And I thought it was cute. My main concern is, I don't want a song about a dad talking about his daughter being an angel and perfect bc... being that my family is from India and strict...And I like to go out... they don't think I am the poster child... :P

Re: How do you guys feel about this song?

I suppose my dad and I have a similar relationship with mine as you and your dad. we are not that close or sentimental either and i don't like song that pretend we were all perfect and loving like a perfect family. I am also in a bind with picking the right song. I do think in my youth i did not grasp the depth of me and my fathers relationship and I DID think it was pretty normal and good at the time in my adolecent mind. So I was thinking of going with Chrisette Michele's song Your Joy because to me it speaks from a young child's perspective and view of their Daddy no matter how great of a Daddy they are or were. As a daughter you still have that little girl love or longing for your Daddy's attention because like it or not that is your first relationship with a Man. Of course the Dance won't last that long so the song in its entirety will not be pkayed.

here are the lyrics
Lyrics to Your Joy :
Walk down the sidewalk,
Staring at your feet,
Wishing my steps were longer,
So by your sides I could keep.

Hold your hand much bigger,
Never wanted mine to grow,
So I could always fit perfect,
Inside your palms just so.

No one loves me just like you do,
No one knows me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.

Lay me on your belly,
Nights when mama wasn't home,
Lightning made me shiver,
And you never let me feel alone.

I tried to match your breathing,
Beating my little heart against yours,
Perfect were the nights we were sleeping,
I never want to end what we are.

'Cause no one loves me just like you do,
And no one loves me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.

One day he'll come on bended knee,
And ask my love away from me,
And when I give my love to him,
He'll always have a place within.

One day he'll come on bended knee,
And ask my love away from me,
And when I give my love to him,
You'll always have a place within.

No one loves me just like you do,
No one knows me just like you do,
No one can compare to the way my eyes fit in yours,
You'll always be my father,
And I'll always be your joy.

One of my friends recently made me listen to this song! I think this one is a little too emotional for me, but I do love it. LOL!
