How do you handle the question of termination on applications and interviews

I worked for an attorney for about 3 months. things ended on a horrible note. He fired me. I was going to leave, I was actually in the process of looking for another job. But he fired me before I could quit.

I'm not sure how to handle the question of....have you ever been fired on job applications and interviews. Any suggestions?

if you only worked there for three months, can you leave it off your resume?

Most employers cannot say negative things about a former employee, even if they were fired.

I do not include it on my resume. But I have been in situations wehere I am asked a direct question on applications or during an interview.

Me, Id put it on and say it wasn't a good fit. I left because management and I both agreed the job was not fit well to my abilities.

Here, we do background checks.

If you leave a gap on your application it tosses up a red flag they look even harder at that gap of time and ask questions. One lady here was traveling from Norway to Australia to America for 3 months and they questioned her!!! She was shocked.

If you lie or say you left instead of being fired, you just don't get hired here. Plain and simple. Lying on your resume means you are untrustworthy. Misrepresenting the circumstances would then ponder how poorly your performance was that you felt you needed to lie about how you left.

I've seen really great canidates get turned away here for those things. We aren't an attorney's office.

*shrug*

I say be truthful but allow something to let you explain yourself. It's better be unclear and then explain in an interview that the job just didnt work out, than to lie or mislead.

I would not lie about it. I think you should just be honest and explain that it wasn't a good situation.

I stand by my belief.

You have to be saavy. You have to know how to write your resume so that people want to look at it and call you...And don't play up the things you don't want them to pay attention to.

Trust me. I am a notorious job-hopper. And I even have direct experience in the recruiting field.

You'd be surprised at what they look for on resumes.

Don't lie. If they ever find out it will be grounds for termination.

If they ask explain the situation. If you we partly at fault say how you have learned from it.

Thank you ladies! You were so helpful. My gut is telling me to tell the truth if asked and emphasize what I learned from the situation.
