How do you know????

How do you know that the photographer is right.....for you? How do you judge them, besides personallity? I am getting FMs from different ones and I look online and thing all of their work is great!! So how did you pick your photographer?

I am a little bit biased toward Duet. They were fantastic, and I loved what they did with our engagement photos (definitely book an engagement photo session before the wedding with the same photographer - it is sort of like a trial). I saw Duet at 2 weddings, and they were EVERYWHERE and so nice and so patient. For one of my friends, a lot of things went wrong during the day. She was upset, but he made sure that the photos came out fantastic.

Overall though, I would just suggest that you meet with a few photographers and speak to them about what you are looking for. Ask for samples of their work and see how they respond. We looked at 2 other photographers besides Duet to make sure.

Hey Christine!!

You know me... I'm artistic so I wanted a photographer with a STRONG photojournalistic portfolio. I also wanted to keep within a $3000.00 budget. ALOT of the photographers I'm really impressed with start at 3500.00 I also wanted someone experienced enough to *know* what they were doing (finding a great shot etc etc)

The day of my sister's wedding it POURED out and we were stuck taking photos inside. A big gripe my sister had with her photog was that THEY were asking HER where to take pictures. They should have an eye for a nice shot.

Twelfth Night impressed me b/c I love their studio and style... They are very personable, so I knew they were right for me =)))

Figure out your budget and what you would like in your photos.

How do you know that their work is better then others? I was thinking of looking into Twelfth Night....
How is everything going?

I had the same concern...We looked around at different photographers, their experience and their albums. Even the places that were 30+ in business, some we were not impressed with. We decided on Ariana Studios after looking at their work online and visiting the studio in Floral Park. Even then, although we signed the contract, we did not know who our photographer was going to be until a week before the wedding. We just left the judgement up to the professionals, because we liked their work. All their photographers seemed adequate and professional enough for us...so we didn't really demand one particular person, although you can do that with them.

We decided on Park Avenue. We met Brian at the Bridal Showcase at West Sayville Country Club (where we are getting married). We think his personality is excellent and we love the photography/photojournalism. We love photography can tell a story.

I kinda went with my gut. I like my photographer's personality; his albums; his proofs and read good reviews on him. All the other photographers, i either didn't like their albums or something was just off. It is a very personal decision and there really is no way to tell until you get your proofs.

I think it's partly the quality of the work and partly how your personalities click. Aside from your FH and your family, you're going to be spending the most time with your photographer - they come when you're getting ready, hang around through all the stressful moments and are there until the RH packs it in for the night. SO if you don't like the person, and there's tension, you're not going to be relaxed and happy in your pictures.

After going to see several photographers, all of whom did good work (and a few of whom bragged about said work a little too much for my taste), I met Dom at 12th Night. His passion for his work was obvious, but in a different way - for every set of proofs he showed me, he had funny stories about the bride, that day, etc. It showed he really took the time to pay attention to what he was shooting and understand the people he was with. He was down to earth, laid back, and someone I could imagine being a calming and fun presence on my wedding day.

HTH!

I agree about the personality thing. I've looked at hundreds of pics on this site and have seen ALOT of good work, so getting THE BEST is a matter of personal taste and preference. I would narrow it down to 3 or 4, then meet with them, look at their work, see who you click with and who fits your budget.

Good Luck!!

Re: How do you know????

we interviewed about 6 photographers....and chose ours based on both work, and personality. They were a married couple themselves, and their personalities were very calming.......this was important to me b/c I knew they'd be with us the whole day.
I also liked their approach. Husband went with groom, and wife went with bride for solo shots....then they worked together.
THey did amazing work. FM me if you want my pics or info.
I STILL cannot believe how amazing my pics are.

Your best source, I personally felt were from the reviews on this site.

I'm a little biased with Duet but there are a TON of photographers out there. It all depends on your taste.

For me, price had a lot to do with it. I wanted good quality of course so I don't feel I settled. However I couldn't afford the high-end photographers.
