We have both lived on our own for a while so we had a lot of stuff, but I decided to get all new appliances. I think when you go to the store and look around, you will see what you could use/want. The stores will also give you a list of things that they recommend.

Just pick out what you want. In case you make a mistake (at least in my case) you can return anything you decide that you really didnt need.

register for anything you need and WANT!

register for everything and you will be amazed what people will give you! The fortunoff web site has a great list of registry suggestions along with how many of each item you should get from china to linnbs....it's vey helpful. Good luck!

Both FH and I have had our own apartments for years and I thought that I wouldn't have much to register for as stuff we 'need' but when I really looked at what I had, everything needs to be replaced! So I registered for everything, just like everyone else.

A lot of bride magazines usually have a list - I made sure to rip one out on our way to Fortunoff's when we registered.

You should register for what you need and for a few 'dream' items. Don't register for things that you don't like or want, but feel that you should. Also, consider your lifestyle. If you never, ever cook then don't register for a $800 pot set just because your friend has one. What a total waste of money. But if you love, love, love nice sheets then register for those. Some people don't care about thread count and register for inexpensive ones, others (like myself) are sheet snobs and only want nice ones. Consider sticking with neutrals if you are unsure where you will be living. Just because you LOVE pink, doesn't mean it will match a room in your apartment. Also, beware of King Size bedsets. Many apartment bedrooms will not fit a King Size bed, plus dressers in the room. You might want to hold off on registering for those items until you know where are going to live.
Stay away from very trendy china patterns. China is something you keep for many years. Get inexpensive trendy everyday dishes instead. Stick with a formal, elegant pattern for your china and you will not grow to hate it in 3 years.

I'm going tomorrow to register. I'm so excited. I just hope everything I like isn't too expensive for my friends and family.
