How Do You Make Your...

Mashed Potatoes??

I clean and cut up the potatoes .. leaving a thin skin on. Boil in a pot of water & chicken broth with chopped onion and garlic. Strain. Then hand mash, leaving in onion and garlic .. add 2% milk to preference .. a bit of butter .. a spoonful of fat free sour cream .. and blend well. No electric mixers for me on this recipe.

I do something similar but minus the onions since FH doesn't like onions. I always use the KitchenAid mixer because it makes the mashed potatoes so fluffy and smooth

If you boil the potatoes in broth they have more flavor.

Put water to boil on stove.

Bring water to boil.

Open box.

Pour flakes into boiling water and add milk.

Serve.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. I haven't made my own mashed potatoes from scratch. The closest I've ever come is twice baked potatoes.

I agree with hand mashing...I would add the broth after sometimes for a low fat version...never thought about boiling them in it...

thanks!

I peel the potatoes, clean them, boil in a pot of water. Then I place them in a bowl with heavy cream, lots of butter, parsley, seasonings, salt and pepper. I then use my hand mixer to mix them.
I don't know why but everyone loves and always requests my mashed potatoes. I think it's the heavy cream.

I just read recently somewhere that you should heat the milk and butter first before adding to the potatoes .. but it didn't say the reasoning for it .. does anyone know why this is the better method then just adding in the milk and butter without going through the heating process???
