I totally sympathize with you. My problem is, if I can't do it the way I've always envisioned it, then I'd rather not do it . ( The formal way). IMaybe we'll just go to vegas....

Re: How do you plan a wedding...
It is definately doable! First you have to priorotize what is important and what isn't. Then shop around and really do your research. Yoyu can get a beautiful dress for well under $1000 (possibly even $500). Look into getting married in the winter, during the day, or on a Friday or Sunday. Check out ebay and store sales.
Good luck!

You can find a dress for a lot less than $500. Look at jcrew.com and nordstrom.com and remember that Davids bridal does sales all the time!
For flowers you can always go to stop and shop or Whole Foods or find a wholesale place.
To find a hall you can afford, look into sundays and friday nights. This will save you a lot! And look in the off season- try February and March.
Cut out favors- no one will notice
Cut out videography
the Photographer is the only thing I suggest splurging on, but you can find a good one for around $2000- just cut out all the extras and go with the most basic package. You can make your own albums and get your own prints from the high res dvd they give you.
DJ's tend to cost less than bands. I have seen ones for under $1500- put a post on the vendors helping brides thread and see what prices they can give you.
Don't have live cocktail hour music.
For ceremony music, check into the local universities that have music schools and hire a student to play.
I hope this helps you out!! These are tips that people have given to me and I am just passing along!
Those are good tips GinaZ. Thats pretty much what I meant by 'skipping the extras'...doesn't necessarily make your wedding any less formal.

Well, honestly, I wouldn't panic...You have a 2009 date. Just SAVE, SAVE SAVE, and don't splurged on things you used to...ya know? Its hard to resists new clothes and going out to eat and this & that, but its the little sacrifices here & there that you WILL get through it and when ur wedding day arrives, its going to be worth every dime of it!

Yeah you can cut limos too. You literally pay hundreds of dollars for a ride from a church to a reception site.
Thanks! Im looking for a budget videographer and contact one thats on there!

Re: How do you plan a wedding...
I worked on a tiny budget. Totally doable.
First, set your total budget. That way you know what you have to spend then you allegate to each category.
Example for me:
Dress: $460 Veil: $5 at AC Moore with coupons Tux rental: $120 RH: $55/person (upgraded menu) could have gone even cheaper. Number of guests: 32 (the bigger the number of guests the $$$) No DJ Only 1 photographer No video Flowers: get more greenery. Good filler. Nobody will notice if you have 60 roses vs. 40, etc... Etc...
HTH
AND REMEMBER TO NEGOCIATE EVERYTHING.

Re: How do you plan a wedding...
You could look for a RH that has a package deal that include everything. FH & I don't have alot of money to spend on our wedding, but we found a place that fit right into to our budget. There are also alot of websites you ccan get your Favors from that have very cheap prices. If you would like more info FM me........

Re: How do you plan a wedding...
Some of the most beautiful weddings are the small ones! If you can't cut down on the number of people, choose a less expensive place. You can also make your own invites, check out David's Bridal for deals on gowns, and deals on anything.
Also, having a small bridal party helps. I decided to only have 4 couples and I later realized that I saved on my limo (less people to drive around=less limos=saved $$) AND we don't have to buy as many BP gifts AND we can have a smaller rehersal dinner! good luck!

Re: How do you plan a wedding...
yes, I would also recommend a small bridal party if possible. We only had a MOH and best man and that saved us so much money
Pretty much everything we did was budget.. photographer (12th Night), DJ (Vinny from High Voltage) my dress (prob. around $500 including alterations & the slip/bra), our hall was AWESOME but we got a great deal, etc. etc. It can definitely be done...good luck!
